Zhang Jiuling's "Farewell to Li Shaofu in Weicheng": Our friendship will not fade because of distance

In a person's life, there will be separation due to various reasons. Jiang Yan said in "Farewell Fu": "The only person who is in ecstasy is separation." It is clearly pointed out at the beginning that separation makes people sad. Even so, separation cannot dilute the sincere feelings. Wang Bo said in "Send Off Du Shaofu to Shuzhou": "There are close friends in the sea, and the world is as close as a neighbor." Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Jiuling also expressed similar feelings in the poem "Send Off to Li Shaofu in Weicheng". This poem The original text is as follows:

I see off the Nanchang captain and leave the pavilion to the west to wait for spring.

The wild flowers are endless to see, and the forest birds are still fresh to listen to.

Bid farewell to Qingmen Road, return to Xuan Baimajin.

We know each other no matter how far we are, but we are still neighbors thousands of miles away.

"See off Nanchang Lieutenant, leave the pavilion to the west to wait for spring." I saw off Li Shaofu who was leaving to serve as Nanchang Lieutenant. It was spring when we parted at the Changting Pavilion on the west side of the road. In the first couplet, the poet mentions farewell matters, echoing the title. In the Tang Dynasty, the county magistrate was called "Mingfu" and the county captain was called "Shaofu". "Weicheng" is located in the southeast of Huaxian County, Henan Province, so the poet called his friend "Weicheng Li Shaofu". In addition, the poet used allusions related to Wei Meifu of Nanchang in the Han Dynasty to praise Li Shaofu for his erudition and immortality. On a spring day, the poet set up wine in the pavilion to bid farewell to Li Shaofu, and his feelings of farewell were beyond words.

"The wild flowers are endless to see, and the forest birds are still fresh to listen to." The brilliant wild flowers spread beyond the field of vision, and the birdsong in the woods are gentle and pleasant. The chin couplet inherits the word "spring" in the first couplet. The poet uses a combination of audio and visual techniques to describe the spring scene at the time of departure. He saw those unknown wild flowers blooming in full bloom, seeming to lay a layer of color on the earth. The gorgeous brocade quilt stretched as far as the eye could see; he heard that the birds in the forest were so happy, and their chirping made people never tire of hearing them. In this couplet, the poet uses the technique of using happy scenery to contrast the sadness, and uses the beautiful scenery of spring to contrast the sadness of parting.

"Farewell to Qingmen Road, return to Baimajin." We will have a farewell banquet outside Qingmen, and you will ride a carriage in the direction of Baimajin. In the neck couplet, the poet's writing changes from scene to parting. In the Han Dynasty, there was Ba Bridge outside Qingmen in Chang'an. People would come to this bridge to break willows to say farewell. Later, poets used "Qingmen" to refer to the place of farewell. "Baimajin" is located in the north of Huaxian County, Henan Province. The poet refers to Weicheng as "Baimajin". The poet writes farewells in the "Farewell Wine" sentence, and writes what happened after parting in the "Return to Xuan" sentence. There is a passage of time between the two sentences before and after, and the feeling of parting is self-evident without writing it.

"We know each other no matter how far apart we are, but we are still neighbors thousands of miles apart." Friends who know each other well do not matter how far apart they are, they are still like neighbors even if they are thousands of miles apart. In the last couplet, the poet ends the poem with words of relief, the meaning of which is very similar to Wang Bo's "There are close friends in the sea, and we are neighbors as far away as the world". The poet is an open-minded person and is not overly sad because of the separation. Compared with the natural distance in space, the poet values ????the distance between hearts more. If two people are close friends, they will still be like neighbors even if they are thousands of miles apart; if two people have "different ways", even if they meet every day, they will still be like strangers. . No matter how far the distance is, sincere feelings will never be diluted.

When parting with Li Shaofu, the poet was sad because of the separation, but he contained this sadness well and expressed it euphemistically and implicitly. On the one hand, this is because both the poet and Li Shaofu are open-minded people and can understand themselves; on the other hand, they both believe that the friendship between the two will not fade due to distance. It is enough to have such a friend in life!
