Why is Lu Yu called the tea god?
The tea industry honored Lu Yu as "tea fairy" and "Cha Sheng" and worshipped him as "Tea God". Lu Yu was a native of Jingling, Fuzhou in Tang Dynasty, which is now Tianmen City, Hubei Province. When the "An Shi Rebellion" broke out, he went to Huzhou in northern Zhejiang with the refugees who fled.

Huzhou is a famous tea producing area. Lu Yu collected a lot of information about tea production here, met famous poets and tea monks, and was closely related to poets Huang Furan and Huang Fuzeng who also had special interests in tea. Lu Yu lives in the tea country, and most of her friends are poets, so she is deeply influenced by art, which makes Lu Yu naturally combine tea with art.

After learning about tea, Lu Yu found that people who drink tea may not be able to appreciate the essence and fun of drinking tea, so she decided to summarize her tea-drinking practice and knowledge and write a monograph on tea science.

From then on, Lu Yu devoted himself to research, and at the age of 28, he wrote the first draft of China's first monograph on tea studies, The Book of Tea. It was later revised. Lu Yu's thoughts on tea science, tea art and tea ceremony, which were founded in The Book of Tea, promoted the development of ancient tea house industry in China and made it flourish in China. Lu Yu made outstanding contributions to the development of China tea industry and the world tea industry, so he was honored as the founder by later generations.
