During the Republic of China, Shanghai was a mixture of good and evil people, including great writers, big stars, big businessmen, big warlords, small gangsters and imperialist foreigners. But it is these people who make the story of "Ten Li Yang Chang" become the most wonderful part of modern China. However, if we look at the history, we will find that in Shanghai at that time, any major event could not be separated from one person, and that was Du Yuesheng.
who is Du Yuesheng? Presumably, everyone will be familiar with him. When he is mentioned, he will think of the "green gang" in old Shanghai. He is the head of green gang, the "underground emperor" in old Shanghai. It can be said that even the northern warlords have to say hello to him when they come to Shanghai. However, Du Yuesheng was not in such a high position from the beginning. He was just a little apprentice of a fruit shop, and he was able to climb up step by step, relying on nothing but his extraordinary emotional intelligence.
He was born in Chuansha, Jiangsu Province in 1888. His family was ordinary, so he had to go out to work to earn money to support himself at a young age. In 192, 14-year-old Du Yuesheng set foot on this bustling land for the first time. He made up his mind that he must stand in the highest position. At first, he just worked as a handyman in a fruit shop in Shiliupu. By chance, he joined green gang because of the recommendation of others, and entered the mansion of Huang Jinrong, a big boss in green gang at that time. Because of his cleverness, he was often able to finish what Huang Jinrong and others told him at the least cost, which made Huang Jinrong trust him more. At first, he handed over one of his casinos to him for management. As a result, Du Yuesheng managed it in an orderly way. Finally, Huang Jinrong directly handed over the opium business in the French Concession. Slowly, Du Yuesheng once surpassed Huang Jinrong and became one of the three Shanghai tycoons. The other two, one is his eldest brother Huang Jinrong, and the other is Zhang Xiaolin.
At that time, everyone in Shanghai knew that Du Yuesheng would be a man. Although Du Yuesheng was a gangster, he was extremely kind to the people at the bottom of Shanghai, and his reputation was always the best among the three tycoons. Moreover, the opium controlled by Du Yuesheng was never sold to China people, but only to foreigners. This shows that he is a very patriotic person.
In April, 1949, due to some factors, Du Yuesheng and his family went to Hongkong. As the saying goes, "A strong dragon won't crush a local strongman", Du Yuesheng who came here had no industry, and the expenses of the Du family were very large. In addition, Du Yuesheng was seriously ill at that time, the whole Du family lived in poverty, even to the point of borrowing money.
In fact, in his early years, when Du Yuesheng was all-powerful, he helped many people. As long as someone came to ask him, he would distribute his money to others, so he left a lot of IOUs in his hand. His family also told Du Yuesheng by stealth that he hoped that he could find those who had borrowed money before, but Du Yuesheng refused.
In p>1951, Du Yuesheng's illness was so serious that he couldn't even get out of bed. He knew that his time was running out, so he called all the people in his family, and then destroyed all the IOUs in front of them, and made it clear that after his death, no one in his family was allowed to find someone to pay his debts.
In fact, this practice includes Du Yuesheng's philosophy of being a man. Most of the people he lent money to in his early years were not serious people, and many of them were even outlaws. When you were rich, they were respectful to you, but when you were lonely, it was inevitable that they would not step on one foot. If the Du family went to them to pay off their debts, it was very likely that the money would not come back and there would be some worries about their lives. Therefore, Du Yuesheng destroyed the IOUs in order to protect his family and left himself a good reputation.
