Yancheng (Simplified Chinese: Yancheng; Traditional Chinese: Yancheng; Pinyin: yánchéng;; The real "Salt City" is a prefecture-level city in the northeast of Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China (PRC). Yancheng is the largest city in Jiangsu Province, bordering Lianyungang in the north, Huai 'an in the west, Yangzhou and Taizhou in the southwest, Nantong in the south and the Yellow Sea in the east.

Yancheng, which literally means "salt capital", is named because there are many sea salt harvest fields around the city. According to historical records, as early as 1 19 BC, sea salt was collected and produced in this area. At that time, the present settlement of Yancheng was named Du Yan County.

history

Yancheng has a history of 2 100 years since the first state was established here in the Han Dynasty in19 BC. Yancheng attracted much attention during the civil war in China from1930s to1940s. The New Fourth Army (N4A) led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) was rebuilt in Yancheng after being ambushed and hit hard by the enemy. After the revival, N4A played a very important role in the war and the final establishment of People's Republic of China (PRC). Many monuments commemorating N4A heroes can still be found around Yancheng.

Geography and climate

Yancheng is the preferred habitat for several endangered species, including red-crowned cranes.

economy

Yancheng's fiscal revenue used to rely mainly on agriculture. Recently, Yancheng's economy has been boosted by the automobile industry. A joint venture between the local Da Yue company and the multinational KIA company has set up an automobile factory in Yancheng. So far, three models have been released, including two cars and an MPV, and the output will soon reach 50,000 vehicles/year.

In addition, Da Yue Group is building new production facilities in Yancheng West Development Zone. When this factory is completed at the end of 2007, it will add 200,000 units every year.

Yancheng has produced many celebrities. Joe (19 13- 1983) was the foreign minister of China in the 1970s, and the first senior diplomat of China to the United Nations after China resumed its legal status during the cold war. Hu Qiaomu (1912-1992)1980 served as secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, director of the central party literature research office, director of the central party history research office, and president of the China Academy of Social Sciences. Two of them have always been called the "Second Bridge" of Yancheng.
