At the beginning of his speech, UN Secretary-General Guterres mentioned the "people-oriented" spirit in the UN Charter, stressing that people's interests should be placed at the center of all work, and people's anxiety, desire, sadness and expectation should always be kept in mind.

"We live in a turbulent world." Guterres said. The conflicts in Yemen, Libya and Afghanistan are protracted. Due to many unilateral actions, the "two-state plan" cannot play a role in solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The humanitarian situation in Venezuela is grim, the possibility of armed conflict in the Gulf region is increasing, and the United Nations peacekeeping cause is facing many challenges ... He expressed great concern and anxiety about these threats and challenges faced by mankind.

Guterres also talked about human rights, gender equality, climate change, migration and refugees, the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, the trust deficit between countries, violation of international law, terrorism and extremism, the spread of hate speech, the protection of religious activities and the promotion of diversity. At the same time, he was glad that the dialogue between Sudan and the Central African Republic brought the dawn of peace and took a difficult step towards a political solution to the Syrian issue.

The theme of this session of the General Assembly is "Encouraging multilateral efforts to eradicate poverty and promoting quality education, climate action and inclusiveness".
