Regular script in history
Regular script was formed in the late Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties and flourished in Sui and Tang Dynasties. It absorbed the advantages of well-proportioned form and clear structure of official script, changed the "twists and turns" of official script strokes into "straightness", changed the flatness of official script into a square, and made writing more convenient, which has been used ever since. According to historical records, the earliest regular script was created by Wang Ci-zhong, matured through the transformation of Zhong You and Wang Xizhi, and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty. The appearance of regular script follows closely Han Li's composition and pursues the further development of formal beauty.

First, the origin of regular script

Regular script evolved gradually from Han Li, beginning at the end of Han Dynasty. It was popular in the feudal society of China from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Jin and Tang Dynasties. It can be divided into Weibei and Tang Kai by time.

1, Weibei is a transitional character from official script to regular script, which is often written in official script of Han Dynasty. Regular script is not mature in nature, so it creates a scene of flowers blooming and forms a unique beauty. Zhong Zhishuai said that Weibei had a great influence on the formation of regular script in Sui and Tang Dynasties.

2. Tang Kai was formed in the Tang Dynasty, which integrated the folio method of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. Its font is serious and dignified, its strokes are steady and dignified, its structure is rigorous and its statutes are strict, which is one of the symbolic achievements of the Tang Dynasty. The laws and regulations of regular script in the Tang Dynasty were gradually perfected and entered the stage of comprehensive maturity. After the formation of Tang Kai, it became the best model for calligraphy learners to train their calligraphy skills.

Second, the classification of regular script

According to the font size, it is divided into block letters and small letters.

1, block letters

Generally speaking, real books smaller than a few inches and larger than an inch square are called block letters, while larger real books are called "broken books" and "watch books". According to the accumulated experience of calligraphers in past dynasties, learning calligraphy should start with block letters, master the structure, stippling and line drawing of block letters, and make the structure appropriate and stippling accurate.

2. Lowercase alphabet

It is a font of 1-3cm, which was founded by Zhong You in the Wei Dynasty of the Three Kingdoms. When you write small print, you should write generously, so that it looks like Shu Lang in big print. You should write beautifully, roundly, straightly and neatly. You don't need to use a sharp edge when writing, but use a pen or signature pen when closing. I suggest you learn small letters after learning big letters, so that you can open them in a wide structure.
