Natural causes of Jingjiang disaster:
The river is especially curved, so it is called "nine-bend ileum". The riverbed of Jingjiang section is also raised by the sediment brought by the upstream. Moreover, a large amount of river water from Chuanjiang (Yibin to Yichang) flows into the upper reaches. 1998 the flood was caused by accidental factors. The vegetation in the upper reaches was destroyed, which aggravated the soil erosion.
Reclamation around the lake in the middle reaches reduces the lake area and weakens the river storage capacity.
