There are two famous Guanyin Dojo in China, Putuo Mountain is an international pilgrimage Dojo, and Shangtianzhu Temple in Hangzhou is a local Dojo.
Shangtianzhu Temple, built in 10 century, is the birthplace of China Baiyi Guanyin, with a history of more than 1000 years.
Faxi Temple, also known as Shangtianzhu Temple, is located in the north of Rudou Peak and the south of Baiyun Peak, about 1km away from Zhongtianzhu. In the first year of Tianfu at the end of Jin Dynasty (936), monk Yi Dao built a house under Baiyun Peak. His name is Daming Mountain House, and he is the founder of Shangtianzhu Mountain. When he saw a strange tree shining on the mountain, he asked Kong Renqian to carve it into a Guanyin statue. Qian Hongao, the king of wuyue, paved the way to build the foundation in Tianzhu and built the Kannonji, which was completed in May of the fourth year of Tianfu in the late Jin Dynasty (939). This is the earliest temple in Tianzhu. During the Ganyou period of the later Han Dynasty (948-950), monks brought ancient relics from Luoyang, Xunzi, and put them on the head of Guanyin statue (like height 1.6 inch). During the Northern Song Dynasty, the abbot of Master jing yuan visited the Confucian Classrooms in Shangtianzhu on 19. I learned a lot from Master Ci Yun, who is good at poetry and prose. He was highly valued by Song Shenzong and was awarded the title of outstanding talent. He built the Baiyun Hall under the Baiyun Peak, and the "Baiyun Hall Seal" became the official seal granted by the court to the monk officer. In the fourth year of Song Jianyan (1 130), Jin Wushu led nomads to attack Hangzhou, visited Tianzhu Temple, learned all the deeds of Guanyin, and transported the statue and Sanzang to Yanjing (now Beijing). The monks led their disciples to Yu He Township, 5 miles southwest of Yanjing, and Wu Shu built a temple as a Tianzhu monk. The monk also hid his woodcut Guanyin statue in the well of Shangtianzhu Temple (under the Guanyin seat in today's hall). In the third year (1 167), Song Xiaozong invested 20,000 yuan to rebuild 16 Kannonji. In the second year of Xichun (1 175), Song Xiaozong went to Shangtianzhu Temple to worship again and changed his name to Kannonji. In the third year of Qingyuan (1 197), it was renamed Tianzhu Temple and was named "the first of the five mountains". The temple was destroyed in two years (1343) and rebuilt in five years (1346). During the more than 270 years of the Ming Dynasty, Shangtianzhu Temple was completely renovated by monks. In the seventeenth year of Qing Shunzhi (1660), the temple was destroyed; Kangxi five years (1666), rebuilt; In the 16th year of Qianlong (175 1), in March, Qianlong made his first southern tour and went to Tianzhu Temple twice, and was named Faxi Temple. Taiping Army entered Hangzhou, and the temple was damaged. After the Taiping Army suffered a crushing defeat, Xue, the magistrate of Hangzhou, called for restoration and dispatched envoys to initiate the reconstruction of Faxi Temple, which was completed in the fifth year of Tongzhi (1886). The main hall was originally built of wood. 17 (1928) was poured with reinforced concrete and completed in 20 years. On the fourth day of the ninth lunar month in 22 years, the temple was destroyed in the middle of the night, and three bungalows were built in 36 years. After the liberation of Hangzhou, the people's government allocated funds for reconstruction. During the Cultural Revolution, the Guanyin Buddha statue enshrined in the main hall was stolen and the house was used for other purposes. After 1985, the religious policy was re-implemented and managed by the Buddhist Association of the city. Guanyin Buddha statue is carved from sandalwood.
Tianzhu Xiang City was formed in the first year of Xianping in the Northern Song Dynasty (998), when Zhang Quhua was known in Hangzhou and prayed for rain in Kannonji, Tianzhu. Since then, villagers from eastern Zhejiang and southern Jiangsu have made pilgrimages to Tianzhu. Every year from the first month of the lunar calendar to the Dragon Boat Festival in May, the incense market lasts for four months. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was listed as one of the "Eighteen Scenes of West Lake". Until the liberation of Hangzhou, bungalows on both sides of Zhu San Road were interlinked for pilgrims to stay. During the festival, the lights will not go out all night. After liberation, Zhuxiang Town continued to exist. According to the statistics of 1954 and 13462 from March 4th to April 8th, people in 27 counties (cities) in Hangjiahu area spent the night burning incense in Tianzhu (especially on February 19th of the lunar calendar). 196 1 On the first, fifteenth, eighteenth and nineteenth day of the second lunar month, more than18,000 pilgrims went to Lingyin Temple and Shangtianzhu.
