Three campaigns to destroy Buddha in history
1. The first legal difficulty is that after the Northern Wei Dynasty destroyed the Northern Liang Dynasty, the rulers of the Northern Wei Dynasty faced various complicated social contradictions, and Emperor Daowu took some reform measures to consolidate his ruling position. It is also tolerant of Buddhism, so Buddhism has developed rapidly in a relatively short period of 50 or 60 years. Later, because Emperor Mao listened to the one-sided words of Taoism and said that Buddhism was a foreign religion and could not be trusted, he brazenly launched a large-scale campaign to destroy Buddhism.

2. The second time was in Jiande, the emperor of Zhou Dynasty, for three years. Because the Yellow Emperor Yu Wenjue was young, power was in the hands of his cousin Yuwen Hu. The following year, Yuwen Hu made Yu Wenyong emperor, namely Wu Tai. In the first year of Jiande, the new emperor Yu Wenyong killed his cousin and took charge of state affairs himself. In order to maintain his rule, he first blamed Buddhism after reforming the military system and economy.

The third time was in the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Emperor Wu of the Tang Dynasty hated Buddhism. In April of five years, Huichang ordered an inventory of the number of monasteries and monks in China. In August, he ordered the demolition of 4,600 monasteries and more than 40,000 private monasteries within a time limit. For example, Wutai Mountain left a remote nanzenji, and all monks and nuns were ordered to go home, which dealt an unprecedented blow to Buddhism.
