It is generally believed that oil painting originated in the Renaissance in Europe, about 1400 to 1600 in the Netherlands. A few years ago, Japanese cultural heritage expert Taniguchi Naomai discovered through research that the world's first oil painting was on the wall of Bamiyan Cave in Afghanistan.
According to reports, oil painting is a Buddha painting, which was created around 650 AD and is the earliest oil painting art work discovered so far.
