The predecessor of the history department of Fudan University can be traced back to the history department of 1925, which is one of the oldest departments in Fudan University. In the course of more than 90 years' development, the construction of Fudan history discipline has been continuously improved: under the guidance of the first-class discipline of history, there are seven two disciplines, including historical theory and history of historiography, ancient history of China and modern history of China; Originally, it was a major of historical geography in the history department, and it also independently developed into a research institute of historical geography.

Fudan's achievements in history are among the highest in the country. 1994 Fudan History Department was listed as "National Training Base for Basic Liberal Arts" by the Ministry of Education. In 2007, "Modern History of China" became a "national key discipline"; In the recent 20 17 subject evaluation, Fudan history got an A+ rating.
