Why did ancient people's shoes tilt up? I am curious.
The toe of shoes is upturned, which is the most typical feature of ancient shoes in China. However, looking at the field of world shoe history, we are surprised to find that upturned shoes are the common characteristics of ancient shoes all over the world. According to historical records, our country's shoes became warped in the pre-Qin period. In fact, the origin of shoes can be advanced. A figure was painted on pottery unearthed in Qinghai during the clan period. Not only are there shoes on the feet, but also the toes of the shoes are upturned. This should be regarded as the earliest shoe image data in China. Later, during the twelfth excavation of Yin Ruins in 1935, a stone carving was found in the tomb of HPKM 12 17 in the northwest of Houjiazhuang, which was the right half of a headless figure, cut off above the shoulder, wrapped in legs and wearing pointed shoes. Historians believe that this is the dress of some people in Shang Dynasty, which shows that shoes are very common. In the spring and autumn period, we have attached great importance to tiptoe, and there are special records. "The Book of Rites and the Funeral of Scholars" says: "Steamed knots are attached to it, which is very gorgeous." Ribbon is the decoration on the toe of ancient shoes, which has holes and can be worn to tie shoelaces. It was not until the Han dynasty that the difference of shoes appeared, which was called different shoes. Both Mawangdui Tomb in Changsha, Hunan Province and Fenghuang Mountain Tomb in Jiangling, Hubei Province 168 have double pointed shoes with heads up. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, shoes were rich in ornaments and varied in styles, mainly manifested as upturned shoes. For example, there were Feng Touxie and Juyun shoes in the Jin Dynasty; Liang period has split shoes, Feng Touxie, Weng head shoes; In Chen You Fishing, there are shoes of Hua Fei; In Yongjia of the Western Jin Dynasty, there were pigeon-toed shoes. Among them, Fengtou, Mo Lifeng and Yuhua Feitou shoes are worn by women, while others are generally worn by men. At that time, women's shoes also had multi-petal shoes, and generally the toe was very high. The earliest exhibition, Pu Cao Ma Ge, is commonly used in ancient and modern times, and the toes are also decorated with rockhopper, pigeon and mandarin duck. A pair of pottery shoes were unearthed in the tomb of Wang Wo, which was moved and buried in the 20th year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (600 years), and the shape of the shoes was also satisfactory. Silk paintings of the Tang Dynasty unearthed in Astana, Turpan, Xinjiang, depict a woman with high shoes. The difference between the second generation of women's shoes in the Tang Dynasty is mainly in the toe, which is round, square, pointed, divided into several petals, and added several layers, but all of them are in the form of high tilt. This kind of shoe ornament can be found in Tang poetry. For example, Wang Ya said in his poem, "Walking on the temple shoes in the clouds". Yuan Zhen's Poetry Day: "Gold is heavy." The condensed word says: "The shoes are red and thin." Colorful shoes in the Tang Dynasty left many objects for later generations. For example, a pair of high-headed brocade shoes unearthed in Turpan, the front end of which is a variant of precious brocade with red background and Hua Niaowen brocade, and the lining is a six-color striped brocade, which is extremely gorgeous. In ancient times, the cloud island of this kind of high-toed shoes was made like this: white cloth was used as the shoe, green cloth was used as the height, the upper part of the cloud head was pulled, and the green cloth was used as the strip, which was separated from the left and right, with six strips on each side, like December. Pointed shoes, that is, "three-inch golden lotus", which began in the Five Dynasties, came into being in the Song Dynasty. The female image in the Song Dynasty's "The Picture of Female Filial Piety" is wearing this kind of red shoes. Even pointed silver shoes were unearthed in the tombs of the Southern Song Dynasty, with the toes as high as seven or eight centimeters. Influenced by the costumes of the Yuan Dynasty in the Ming Dynasty, boots developed further. However, due to the strict regulations on the level of wearing shoes in the Ming Dynasty, ordinary natives still mainly wear shoes, and the improvement of shoemaking skills is still marked by the upturned shoes. In the forty-first year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 16 13), Wang Xijue and his wife were buried in a tomb, and a pair of men's shoes with clouds and yellow satin soles were unearthed. In the novels of Journey to the West, there are also many descriptions of shoes in the Ming Dynasty, such as Yuntou shoes. Such as "Ma Jing Gewei Yuntou Shoes", "Buyun Shoes", "Yun Jian Feng Touxie", "Yuntou Shoes Decorated in Yellow and Brown", "Yuntou Embroidered Shoes" and "Double Hooked Phoenix Embroidered Shoes" and so on. Usually, novels are a reflection of social life. This tells us from another angle that shoes in the Ming Dynasty are also very colorful. The manufacturing method of Yuntou Inclined Bridge is also specially introduced in the works of Ming Dynasty: two soap filaments, about 43-A7 cm long, are bent in a compromise, decorated with toes at the bend, and split the toes in two near the bottom. After sewing the remaining strips, cross them on the vamp and divide them into two tips. For the sake of luster, sew them on the two edges of the shoe mouth. After the Qing Dynasty, women generally wore high-top shoes, "golden lotus" and round toe shoes, while men wore cloth shoes of similar styles besides boots. Therefore, the shoe ornaments in Qing Dynasty gradually formed a new pattern of "flat shoes". Only the boots and shoes of Emperor Da Gui, the front end of the sole rolled up slightly, and there was no obvious upturned state of the shoes. After the Qing Dynasty, ethnic minorities in the southwest and northwest, as well as Mongolians and Koreans, still retained a strong shoe color. Until now, embroidered shoes, traditional boots and Korean hook-back shoes of these regions and nationalities are decorated with raised shoes.
