Xianxiang was named Cai Jiazhuang in Han Dynasty, Tanghuang in Yuan Dynasty and Xianxiang in late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. According to historical records such as the History of the Later Han Dynasty, Du Kang's two daughters became immortals here, hence the name Fairy Temple. It once became the largest timber distribution center and a famous rice market in northern Jiangsu. Fairy Temple, Dasheng Temple, Yu Palace and other buildings are widely known.
1May, 966 18, Fairy Town was renamed Jiangdu Town.1July, 994, Jiangdu County was set up as a city directly under Jiangdu Town. 1March, 1995, included in four villages in Zhengyi Township; In April, 2000, Zhuanqiao Town was transferred to Jiangdu Town. In September, 200 1 year, the former Zhanggang Town was merged into Jiangdu Town, and in May, 2005, Shuanggou Town was merged into Xiannv Town, now renamed Xiannv Town.
Since then, Fairy Town has become the largest town in Jiangdu District, Yangzhou City and even central Jiangsu Province.
1July, 1988, it was approved by the provincial government as a key industry in satellite towns. In the same year, it was named as a civilized unit by the provincial government. 1June, 1992, it was rated as one of the top 50 towns with comprehensive strength in central Jiangsu. After 1994, it was named as the top 100 towns in the middle of Jiangsu Province, advanced in science and technology, advanced in culture, sanitary town and safe town. In February of 200 1 year, it was named as a civilized town in Jiangsu Province by the provincial party committee and government.
It has successively won the honorary titles of civilized town, sanitary town, advanced town in science and technology, advanced town in comprehensive management of social security, top 100 town in comprehensive economic strength, and "Top 1,000 town in comprehensive development of rural towns in China". In 2005, the town achieved a GDP of 4.45 billion yuan and a per capita net income of 6,668 yuan.
