The School of Medicine of Sun Yat-sen University is located in Shenzhen Campus. It is one of the brand-new main campuses jointly built by Sun Yat-sen University and Shenzhen according to the standards of world-class universities, with medicine and engineering as its main disciplines. The Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University was reorganized from the former Basic Medical College (Shenzhen) and Clinical Medical College (Shenzhen) on May, 2007. The original college was established in August 2006+2065438. It is the first college in Shenzhen campus to recruit students. The origin of Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University;
Its origin can be traced back to the Ji Bo Hospital established by American missionary Dr. peter parker in 1835. 1866, another American missionary, John Jia, established the first medical college of western medicine in China in modern times, and later developed into the medical college of Lingnan University. Guanghua Medical College founded by 1908 (later developed into Guangdong Guanghua Medical College) and Guangdong Public Medical College founded by 1909 (later developed into Sun Yat-sen University Medical College) are also the sources of medical education in Sun Yat-sen University.
1953 at the beginning of liberation, the national colleges and universities were reorganized, and Lingnan University Medical College and Sun Yat-sen University Medical College merged to form South China Medical College, and then Guangdong Guanghua Medical College merged into South China Medical College.
