Extended data
Hong Kong implements the Hong Kong dollar issuance system, which is a system for commercial banks to issue paper money. 1845, the British national treasury bank opened, and issued 54,000 yuan banknotes for the first time, creating a precedent for British-funded commercial banks to issue Hong Kong dollars. 1897, Standard Chartered Bank issued banknotes in accordance with the British Magna Carta of 1853, and the following year, HSBC also participated in the issuance of Hong Kong dollar banknotes in accordance with the HSBC Regulations of 1866.
Beneficiary banks also participate in currency issuance in accordance with the provisions of 19 1 1. Later, the dominant bank was acquired by HSBC, and its right to issue banknotes was cancelled. Since then, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank, funded by the United Kingdom, have been note-issuing banks in Hong Kong.
