Introduction of making skills of Wan 'an compass
Wan 'an compass making is a traditional handicraft skill of Han nationality in Xiuning County, Anhui Province. Compass is an important instrument, which is widely used in astronomy, geography, military affairs, navigation and divination, as well as the location of houses and graves. It is the continuation and development of the compass, one of the four great inventions of the Han working people in ancient China, and it is a traditional and practical Han folk handicraft developed on the basis of the compass. Wan 'an Compass is the only existing compass made by hand with the traditional skills of Han nationality in China. It is named after its birthplace and place of origin in Wan 'an Old Street, Wan 'an Town, Xiuning County, Anhui Province. As early as 19 15, Kyrgyzstan compass and sundial won the gold medal of Panama World Expo. In the treasure showcase of Beijing Chinese History Museum, there is a 26-story wooden water compass produced by Wu Wanan Luheng Compass Store. On May 20th, 2006, Wan 'an compass skill was approved by the State Council and included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
