WCGC in 2000
The first World Computer Game Challenge sponsored by WCGC (World Computer Game Challenge) Organizing Committee of South Korea opened on June 7, 2000. The contest has received strong support from relevant Korean government departments (culture, tourism, information industry and communication) and enterprises. Samsung galaxy invested $7 million to support this project, and at the same time established Inc (International Network Marketing) in conjunction with BETTLE TOP (the largest and most authoritative game alliance in Korea) and N'FINIEX Company, and organized and managed various activities through ICM Company. Established a national e-sports organization. The official organization hopes that athletes from all over the world can exchange and learn from each other through this competitive event, so as to carry forward the true Olympic spirit, and hopes that WCGC will be held once a year in famous cities all over the world, so as to make WCGC a real "online game Olympic Games" and finally carry forward online competitive sports. Therefore, this competition is also called "before the Olympics" in the game industry.
The main contestants of WCGC are Korean domestic players, and the competitions are Age of Empires 2, Starcraft, FIFA2000 and QUAKEIII. Six players from China were invited to take part in the competition, but the result was not satisfactory. Only Age of Empires II and FIFA player Chen Di reached the semi-finals. At the meeting, it was announced that WCG 2003WCG will hold online preliminaries, regional trials and China finals from July 10 to September 7.
