Spanish striker David Villa became the top scorer in the final stage of Euro 2008. Although he missed the championship final due to injury, he still beat German player Podolski, Russian player pavlyuchenko, Swiss player hakan yakin and Turkish player Sentuk with a score of 1 and put on his golden boots.

Villa scored four goals in two matches in Austria, including a hat-trick against Russia, which made him the first player to win three consecutive championships in the European Cup finals in the new century. In the history of the European Cup, Villa is the seventh player to achieve a hat-trick in the final. Villa scored another goal in the group match against Sweden, but the top scorer with four goals was less than the Golden Boot winner's five goals in the past three times.
