Historically, Xiaguan District has lagged behind other urban areas in politics, economy and culture. Shimonoseki seems to have no provincial and municipal government departments, all of which can only be Shimonoseki's own party and government departments. There are so many scientific research units in Nanjing, but none in Xiaguan District. There are only a handful of large enterprises, such as Port Authority, Shimonoseki Power Plant and Railway, and there are no other decent enterprises. As for the once prosperous Jehol Road, there is almost no change now, but it is even more bleak than before.
However, there are many things in Shimonoseki. First, there are many foreigners, the rent in the urban-rural fringe is cheap, and there are few people who build and manage privately, and many foreigners who do small businesses are concentrated; Second, there are many dangerous houses. Looking from a distance on the bridge, it is a tall building. If you have a bird's eye view of Shimonoseki, it is a place where slums are concentrated. Although it has been reformed in recent years, it is still unremarkable compared with large-scale rags. Third, there are many unemployed laid-off workers. After all, there are no enterprises in Shimonoseki. Most small enterprises shut down and turn around, and laid-off workers naturally increase. People who enjoy subsistence allowances are among the best in Nanjing.
I don't know what is left over from history. However, after so many years of great development in Nanjing, only Xiaguan District lags behind other districts, which is a problem worthy of consideration.
In previous years, it was said in the annual report that the development of the Nanjing Bund was just like the development of the Yangtze River near Shimonoseki 10 km like the Shanghai Bund. However, n years later, the waterfront of Shimonoseki remains the same. Not only is the model of Shanghai Bund not formed, but even the original wharf along the river seems to be frozen to the point where there are few doors.
Later, I heard that the "third business circle" in Nanjing was established with Jianning Road Market Street as the leader. But today, this Jianning Road has no commercial flavor except traffic congestion. Jinqiao, Yinqiao and Yuqiao have become famous distribution centers for fake goods and cheap goods in Nanjing, and they have no brand effect.
Of course, there have been some developments. Before the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, there was a Yuejiang Building with no buildings in history, and Jinghai Temple was restored. In addition, Jiefang Square, which was built a few years ago, is similar to Liu Bocheng Square. The Baoshan Street plot, which was sold at a sky-high price several years ago, is also under construction. However, compared with the transformation of old Jiangkou, East Fort and Fangjiaying in Xiaguan District, it is a bit slow and less. I believe those places are different from the south of the city, and there are no places of interest worth preserving.
It was proposed by the government to build a window area of "modern riverside city integrating the characteristics of ancient capital with modern civilization", but I didn't expect Xiaguan District, which is known as the "North Gate of Jinling", to be ignored. A Zhongshan (North) Road from Zhongshan Pier to Xinjiekou was once so prosperous and famous. Now going to Zhongshan North Road, north of Yancang Bridge, I feel a lot desolate. Without the commercial atmosphere, the atmosphere of Liancheng city can't be seen.
Nanjing Metro Line 2 has started construction. According to the present situation, even if it reaches Line 5, I am afraid it will not be connected with Shimonoseki. Nanjing has opened three river crossings, and at least 10 will be opened in the future, but none of them has anything to do with Xiaguan District. The design capacity of Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is 1.8 million vehicles/day, and the actual capacity is overloaded by 60,000 vehicles. However, no one has considered reducing her burden, and no one has mentioned building another bridge nearby to divert the flow. Instead, several bridges were built far away from the bridge, and the capacity of 40 thousand vehicles was less than 20 thousand.
I really don't understand how Xiaguan District can become a forgotten corner of Nanjing's construction and development. I live in the northernmost part of Gulou District, almost next to Xiaguan District, and I can clearly feel the difference between the two districts. In addition to the architectural differences, Xiaguan District has a poor environment, no good primary school, no good middle school and a dilapidated environment, which also objectively causes the quality differences between Xiaguan District and other urban residents. However, there are 654.38 million families in Nanjing, and there are 300,000 people living in Xiaguan District. They have the right to ask for improvement and development, and they should not be forgotten like other people in the city.
