I have heard his legend since I was a child, but I really saw him at 1988. At that time, the government gave me a task, let me go to Kunming to participate in the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" national social science "border trade" project results conference sponsored by the China National Trade and Economic Research Association. I just entered the hotel to attend the meeting and sign in. Before I went back to my room, I heard a man say, who is in Dandong? I suddenly turned around and saw an old man in his seventies. He is not tall, with big eyes, wearing a Xinjiang hat and a gray trench coat. He is very handsome. Is this the legendary Wang Xingrang? This is how I got to know Wang Xingrang, whom I have admired for a long time.
Wang Lao is a person with a distinct personality, and he speaks with a Dandong accent. He is open-minded, straightforward and approachable, and his hearty laughter deeply infects people around him. He misses his hometown, cares about Dandong and asks me questions, but he is most concerned about the economic development of Dandong and the lives of ordinary people. He hated the planned economy of the former Soviet Union and supported reform and opening up with both hands.
From then on, I met him at a meeting in western Hunan and became an affectionate fellow villager. After the meeting, he specially invited me to his residence in Beijing. His wife is from Lankao, Henan, kind and practical. Under the facilitation of Wang Lao, the China National Trade and Economic Research Association led by him held its annual meeting in Dandong, and also did some practical things for Dandong. The last time I saw him, he asked me to go back to Dandong and send a message to the city leaders. Dandong is a region where ethnic minorities live in compact communities. It is hoped that a national economic and trade research association will be established as soon as possible to serve the local economic development.
1July 997 19, the bad news came. Wang Lao died of illness at the age of 84. This year marks the tenth anniversary of his death. Let us Dandong people remember him forever. He is the pride of Dandong people!
