Why are all buddhas and bodhisattvas sitting on the lotus platform?
Lotus, also called lotus. It is a symbol often mentioned and seen in Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist art classics. Lotus has an indissoluble bond with Buddhism because it is associated with many biographies of Sakyamuni. It is said that Sakyamuni was originally a bodhisattva in the sky, and was born by King Kapilawi. Lady Mo Ye, the princess of King Su Fan, is beautiful, gentle and virtuous, with ocean deep, the king of a country. Mrs. Moyev recalled her wedding night, and she vaguely saw a man riding a white elephant coming towards her, getting smaller and smaller, and getting into her stomach from her right rib. In her mind, she felt that the Bodhisattva had turned into a white elephant and entered the fetus. A few days later, a faint red halo appeared on the pregnant Mrs Mo Ye's face. The bright green necktie is like a lotus leaf, and her face is like a blooming lotus flower. Later, when Mrs. Mo Ye gave birth to the Buddha under the Muluo tree, birds were singing in unison, the sky was crisp, and flowers and trees were blooming in all seasons, especially the lotus flower as big as the car cover, which suddenly opened in the swamp. As soon as the Buddha was born, he stood on the lotus, pointing to the sky with one hand and the ground with the other, and said, "I am the only one in the world." This day is April 8, which has become the "Buddha Bathing Festival" of Buddhism. When Sakyamuni realized the Tao, he rose to the north and walked around the tree, "observing the tree", one lotus at a time, totaling 1.8 lotus. Every time he preaches Dharma, he sits on the lotus seat, and his sitting posture is also lotus sitting posture, that is, his legs are crossed and his feet are up.

In the world, plum blossoms are chaste and proud of frost and snow; Orchids are fragrant, beautiful and elegant; Bamboo is tall and knotted, green and dripping; Chrysanthemum is aloof, but I love lotus. This is because ancient India has long had the spirit of loving lotus. People are enduring the hot weather in the countryside, and they are particularly happy, fresh and happy about the lotus flowers that bloom in spring and summer. From the very beginning, Buddhism paid attention to conforming to people's customs and psychology to attract believers, so lotus is often quoted repeatedly in Buddhist scriptures. Buddhist scriptures say that there are not dozens of lotus flowers between people, hundreds of lotus flowers in the sky and thousands of lotus flowers in the pure land. The Shurangama Sutra says, "I respect the times. From the steamed bun, the treasures of light gushed out, and the lotus blossomed in Chiba, sitting on the lotus ...". The Buddhist Vimalakīrti Sutra says, "When you are not in the world, like a lotus, you are always good at silence." The classic explanation says: "Therefore, all ten Buddhas were born in muddy soil and sat on the lotus platform." It can be seen that the lotus shows that it is from annoying to clean. It shows that it was born in silt, bloomed on the water surface, and produced silt without dyeing deep connotation. At the same time, the lotus blooms in the hot summer water, which indicates trouble and coolness, that is, it brings a cool boundary between troubled people. Therefore, Lotus is a saint incarnated from troubles, born in the pure land of Buddha. The Buddha came out of the mud, and it was quite natural to come out. It proved to be right and it felt great. Although it is beyond the ordinary, it does not leave the world. Lotus has a seamless connection with Zhang, a master of Buddhist College. Buddhism believes that people have more troubles than the sand in the Ganges, and they have lost themselves, as if they were the same as in the past. Aspiring people should make great efforts to cultivate their self-cultivation, purify themselves, be free from pollution, transcend all worldly customs and pursue a clear and unobstructed realm. The natural beauty of lotus can be used as a metaphor for Buddhist thought. Moreover, the lotus itself does have some attractions, that is, the lotus is expensive, good and beautiful. It stands tall, bright and fresh; Lead an honest and clean life and stand proudly; Its roots are like jade and have no color; Its stem is empty and there are no five aggregates; Its leaves are as green as blue and clear from the middle; Its silk is like a wisp and cannot be broken; Its flowers are gloomy and fragrant; No branches, no vines, no hanging; Much like lotus seeds, painstaking as Buddha; Teach people seriously and lead a totally clean life. Li Shangyin, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, praised the lotus and wrote a famous poem:

Flowers in the world have nothing to do with leaves, and flowers into the golden basin are dust.

But there are green lotus and red cymbals, and the volume is comfortable and open.

This flower and this leaf set each other off, and the green color is reduced to the red color, which makes people sad!

In addition, according to the teachings of Buddhism, students in the three realms all support their lives with lust; Pure land saints incarnate as lotus flowers and can show people with images familiar to the world. Because the lotus represents the clean dharma body of the Buddha, Zhuang Yan's self-justification has become an important topic in Buddhist teachings and art, and it is also an auspicious thing that is often seen in Buddhist temples. For example, there are lotus flowers painted on the Ajanta wall in ancient India. In Dunhuang, Yungang and Longmen Grottoes in China, there are many artistic ideas with lotus as the content. Like Longmen Cave? Yangdong has a decorative picture of lotus, which has a unique color with the lotus at the top of the lotus cave. Even in large and small temples, the sculptures of buddhas and bodhisattvas can not be separated from the lotus, or sitting on the lotus seat, or holding the lotus in hand, paying attention to it. Even the most famous Guanyin Bodhisattva in the world is accompanied by lotus flowers, and many Guanyin images are accompanied by lotus flowers: Guanyin in white, holding lotus flowers in his left hand and making vows in his right hand; Lying lotus Guanyin, lying lotus in the pool; Play music and watch the sound, hold your cheeks with your right hand, and twist lotus flowers with your left hand on your knees; A leaf looks at the sound and floats on the water by the lotus; Wade looked at the sound, sitting by the rock, holding the lotus in his left hand; Duo Luo Zun Guanyin, holding utpala; Listen and sit on the lotus leaf; Elaine listened to the song, sat on a lotus leaf, holding lotus flowers in her hands. In the Buddha statues and Buddhist scriptures we saw, the sages who introduced the Pure Land Buddha countries all sat or stood on the lotus platform to show purity and strictness. It can be seen that lotus is a symbol of pure land of Buddhism.

Not only that, Lian is also closely related to Buddhism and medicine. Lotus is rich in nutrition, both edible and medicinal. In ancient times, daughters often picked lotus flowers with dew to cover their faces in the early morning (page 8, page 6) (page 5, page 0), or held them to preserve their beauty. Is there one in the lotus? Dermatochrome and lignans can really moisturize the skin color. Fresh and tender lotus is soaked in boiling water, and its juice is green and fragrant, which has the functions of clearing away heat and relieving summer heat, promoting fluid production and appetizing. The underground roots and stems of lotus are called lotus roots. It is said that Sharifutsu, one of Sakyamuni's ten younger brothers, had tuberculosis, and he came to visit him. Knowing that Sharifutsu likes to eat lotus roots, he brought some fresh lotus roots to Sharifutsu. After eating lotus root, Sharifutsu recovered. Later, the ancestors of Buddha often used lotus root as a medicine to treat diseases, and found many medicinal values of lotus root.

Today, lotus is revered as a "sacred object" in Buddhism. The lotus image of Buddhism, after the completion of the whole school of oriental culture, is still calm, cheerful, detached and slightly smiling. Infinite Buddha is like a lotus, infinite Buddha is like a lotus. Life should also be like a lotus, and peace will lead to Shenglian Bu. Because of this, lotus contains pure merit and calm wisdom, which is always admired by Buddhist brothers and sons and loved by kind people in the world.

When people walked into the temple, they looked up and saw a statue of Sakyamuni, wearing a shoulder-length gown and making a statement, sitting on the lotus platform. According to Buddhist scriptures, this is a gesture that Buddha Sakyamuni preached to believers after becoming a Buddha. Amitabha, known as the head of the "Three Sages of the West", is also sitting on the lotus platform, with his hands on his feet and a lotus platform in his palm, which seems to guide all beings to the pure land of the Western Buddhist country. Guanyin, who is famous for her kindness and compassion, is dressed in white, sitting on the Bai Lianhua, holding a pure bottle in one hand and clinging to a Bai Lianhua in the other, as if to show Guanyin's pure bodhisattva heart, and fully guide the believers to leave the world and reach the pure land of Buddhism where lotus flowers are in full bloom.

When people read Buddhist scriptures, they often see that the Buddhist scriptures refer to the Buddhist country as the lotus boundary, the temple as the lotus room, the monk's cassock as the lotus dress, the monk's handprint as the lotus fight, and the "rosary" used by the monk is also made of lotus seeds. Buddhist scriptures say that lotus seeds are better than Sophora japonica beads as rosary beads. If you pinch it again, you will get a thousand times the blessing.

To sum up, lotus has formed an indissoluble bond with Buddhism and has become a symbol and sacred flower of Buddhism.

Why does Buddhism worship lotus so much? In short, there are two reasons:

First, it is related to the characteristics of lotus.

Lotus is a perennial aquatic plant flower, which has neither the elegance of peony nor the aloofness of chrysanthemum. However, its characteristics of "emerging from mud without dyeing" and blooming in front of cool Xia Jiaoyang have won the supreme worship of Buddhism.

Buddhism believes that "six dusts" are called "six dusts" because the world is full of "six dusts". Due to the pollution and dryness of the "six dusts", the world is full of desire and competition, and it is difficult for people to be calm and clean. This situation is incompatible with the pure land of Buddhism, which is "away from dirt". If you want to enter Buddhism, you must stay away from the world, escape into a clean and empty door, concentrate on practicing Buddhism, eliminate pollution and dry up. The special attribute of "Lotus comes out of the mud without being stained" is consistent with the desire of Buddhist believers in the world not to be polluted by the secular world and to keep clean, so that they can smoothly enter the pure land of Buddhism.

Secondly, it was influenced by the custom of worshipping lotus in ancient India.

As early as before the birth of Indian Buddhism, the scorching sun was like fire every summer. In this hot summer, it is the season when lotus flowers are in full bloom. On a summer night or in the early morning, walking in ponds and lakes where lotus flowers are in full bloom, enjoying the lotus flowers, the green water is hidden, and the fragrance of pink and lavender is pleasing to the eye. Xu Lai is a cool breeze, and the fragrance of lotus flowers emanates from evergreen trees with the wind, which makes people feel cool, as if they had been washed. The lotus pond has become a summer resort.

In the classical literature of ancient India, lotus is often compared to a beautiful girl. For example, the famous epic Ramayana said, "Siddhartha has a woman who looks beautiful, but she is like a lotus root covered with mud, and her shining beauty has never been revealed." In addition, in classical literature, the mother of Buddha Sakyamuni is described as having lotus-like eyes.

In Indian Buddhist scriptures, the birth of Sakyamuni is also associated with the lotus flower. According to Buddhist scriptures, before the birth of Sakyamuni, there were eight auspicious signs in the palace. Hundreds of birds get together, and the flowers of the four seasons bloom together. Strangely enough, a Bai Lianhua as big as a wheel suddenly grew in the big pond in the palace, and Bai Lianhua was born when Sakyamuni was born. At the beginning of Sakyamuni's birth, thousands of golden lights flashed in the root of his tongue, and each golden light turned into a white lotus in Chiba.

The Buddhist sutra "Hundred Fates Sutra" says that Sakyamuni is the lotus prince, and there is another touching story:

Once upon a time, there was a country on the upper reaches of the Ganges River. The king's name is Polonaise, also known as the Lotus King. The country is well governed and the people live and work in peace and contentment. One year, there was an epidemic and many people sought medical treatment. Seeing this, the king was merciful and concentrated his courtiers on running around to treat the people. The doctor said that only the flesh and blood of red fish in the northeast river of Beijing can cure this epidemic, but there is no such fish in the river at present. After listening to this, the prince jumped into the river, turned it into a red fish and devoted himself to treating the people. People have come to cut the flesh and blood of red fish to treat diseases. Strangely, the red fish was "cut and resurrected", but it could not be cut, and it lasted for twelve years until all the people in China were cured. According to Buddhist scriptures, this lotus prince is the later Buddha Sakyamuni.

In the Miscellaneous Treasure Classic, there is also a story of Mrs. Lotus: as early as in the human world, there lived a spiritual fairy named Tiboyan at the foot of the snow-capped mountain. He often pees on stones. One day, a doe came here and licked it a few times. She soon became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter named Deer Girl. Later, Tiboyan learned that the deer girl was his own, so he took it and raised it. When the deer girl grows up, there are lotus flowers on the road, so she is also called the lotus girl. King Utiyan passed by hunting and saw a seven-fold lotus flower on the ground. He asked around about the deer girl and took her back to the palace to be a princess. Shortly after arriving at the palace, she became pregnant and gave birth to 500 sons at a time. All of them are upright and handsome, and when they grow up, they will become 500 Hercules and the protector of the country. The king was overjoyed and named Mrs. Deer as the second lady, who was also called Mrs. Lotus.

In Indian Buddhist scriptures, the classification of lotus is also related to Buddhism, which is very different from today's scientific classification. The meaning of lotus in Buddhism is extensive, including different genera of water lilies and so on.

According to the color of lotus, there are five colors in Buddhist scriptures: white, blue, red, purple and yellow, which are called "Five Tianhua". White and blue are the most popular.

Bai Lianhua, transliterated in Sanskrit as Fantoli, is the largest flower with hundreds of petals, and is also called "White Leaf Flower" in the exam. This kind of peanut grows in a pool in A Xin, a Buddhist country, which is rare in the world, so it is also called "a rare flower", and Buddha Sakyamuni called it "a good flower on earth".

Utpala, transliterated in Sanskrit as Youboluo, is named after its green color. The leaves are long and narrow, slightly rounded near the bottom, gradually pointed upward, blue and white, and look like Buddha's eyes, so they are not called "lotus eyes" in Buddhist scriptures, that is, the eyes of Guanyin Bodhisattva.

These five kinds of lotus flowers are seated by five empty Tibetan bodhisattvas. The Buddhist scriptures say:

Oriental wisdom is hidden in the void, sitting in Yudu, riding a silver cow;

The south can hide in the void, sit on the red lotus and ride the golden elephant;

In the west, I care about hiding in the void, sitting in the Bai Lianhua and riding a glazed horse;

In the north, empty and clean, sitting on purple lotus flowers and riding lions;

The center is empty, sitting on the golden lotus and taking the crystal turtle;

And lotus petals. According to Buddhist scriptures, there are three kinds of flowers: benevolence, smallpox and bodhisattva. There are only a dozen lotus petals of China people, hundreds of lotus petals of Tianhua people and thousands of lotus petals of Bodhisattva, which are the most respected thousand lotus petals in Buddhism and the symbol of lotus in Buddhism.

Second, the beauty of lotus-"four virtues" and "ten virtues"

With the spread of Buddhism and the establishment and development of Pure Land Sect, the forms and contents of lotus worship are increasingly colorful. Buddhism beautifies the natural attributes of lotus by analogy with Buddhist teachings, precepts and precepts, and gradually forms a perfect worship of lotus, and summarizes the virtues of lotus into "four virtues" and "ten virtues".

The Buddhist sutra Nirvana Sutra says that Buddha has four virtues, namely, constancy, happiness, self-sufficiency and purity. The so-called Changde means that the Buddha's nature is inseparable, and there is a fixed virtue of "not moving for three generations, and not changing all laws". The so-called virtue means that the Buddha is willing to stay away from the suffering of life and death in the world and to die in the pure land of nirvana. The so-called virtue means that although the Buddha is in the world, he has long forgotten the "ecstasy" of ordinary people and gained the "true self" of "eight freedoms". The so-called pure virtue means that the Buddha is far away from the dust and dirt of the world, just like a clean big round mirror without fiber.

Buddha has four virtues, and Buddhist scriptures are also summarized as "four meanings", corresponding to "four virtues" According to "Hua Yan Jing", "Dahua Lian" has four meanings in Liang She's theory:

Just like the lotus, it does not touch mud, is more real than the dharma world, and does not pollute the world.

Er Ru Lotus, self-development, just like self-enlightenment compared with truth, all beings are self-development.

Three, such as lotus, bee picking, truth is all saints.

Four virtues are like lotus, and there are four virtues: one fragrance, two cleanness, three softness and four loveliness. For example, the four virtues, constancy, happiness, self-sufficiency and purity. "

The Sanzang Dharma Book also gives a more detailed summary of the advantages of Lotus over Bodhisattva.

Lotus metaphor bodhisattva ten good method:

1. Stay away from pollution. Bodhisattva practices, has wisdom, can see all realms in various laws, and has no greed for love. Although he is in the stream of five turbid life and death, he is not infected with life and death, that is, the lotus comes out of the water and is not infected with sludge. (Five turbidity, namely, robbery turbidity, sentient beings turbidity, trouble turbidity, seeing turbidity and life turbidity)

2. Don't be evil. Bodhisattva's practice is only to destroy all evil, to give birth to all good, to protect purity with body, mouth and heart, and not to share with the slightest evil. For example, the lotus, although a drop of water, will not stay.

3. Full of abstinence. Bodhisattva practices, puts all the commandments into it, and insists on not committing crimes, so that the commandments can destroy the evil of the body and mouth, and the incense can remove the gas of feces. Therefore, as the saying goes, the fragrance is fragrant, and it is widely spread. It is a metaphor for the spread of lotus flowers, and the fragrance is widely spread, and it is heard far and near.

4. The body is clean. Because of the precepts, the bodhisattva's body and mind are clean in the five turbidity, but they can be dyed but not dyed. For example, although Watsons lotus is in muddy water, it is naturally clean and has no dyeing.

5. You look happy. Xi, he looks happy. Yi, joy also, bodhisattva heart often Zen, then face no frown, the phase is complete, see it all. For example, when the lotus is in full bloom, it makes all people feel happy and happy.

6. Soft but not astringent. Soft is smooth, not astringent is not stagnant. It means that the bodhisattva's charity trip is not hindered by the closed door method, and it is full of plastic inside and outside. Therefore, the body is often clean, soft and rotating, not rough. Metaphor lotus, the body is soft and moist.

7. Everyone who sees it is lucky. Bodhisattva's practice achievements are wonderful, and those who see them are lucky. For example, lotus flowers and fragrant flowers are wonderful. Those who see them and those who dream are lucky.

8. There is enough seasoning. Bodhisattva is successful, wise, solemn and full, which means that the lotus is in full bloom and its fruit is full.

9. Mature and clean. Bodhisattva prunes the circle, and the wonderful fruit matures, but Huiguang found that it can make all beings have six clean roots, which is similar to the maturity of lotus. Look at its color with your eyes, smell its fragrance with your nose, and your roots will be clean. (Six roots, namely eye root, ear root, nose root, body root and Italian root. )

10. Life has been thinking. When the Bodhisattva was born, immortals and others were protected by Yue Xian, so that they could practice good deeds and prove the bodhi fruit. For example, when the lotus was born, although there were no flowers, Mr. Wang had already thought of the lotus. (Sanskrit Bodhi, Huayan Road)

Although the content of the above metaphor is not targeted and comparable, it accurately captures the delicate and clean characteristics of lotus and the spirit of Buddha, so that lotus has been sublimated.

Since Buddhism was introduced into China from India in Han Dynasty, it has gradually been combined with the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. After Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, eight sects were formed in Sui and Tang Dynasties. Among them, the pure land Sect, which aims at chanting the name of Amitabha and the paradise in the west, has the closest relationship with Lotus. The development of Pure Land Sect enriched the content and form of lotus worship, making the form of lotus worship more prosperous.

Since the Eastern Jin Dynasty, there has been an idea among Buddhists in China to pray for the pure land of Maitreya, that is, to attract heaven. Its founder is a famous monk, Daoan.

Dao 'an (3 14-385) was born in Changshan Fuliu (now Jixian County, Hebei Province). Parents died young and became a monk at the age of 18. He became a disciple of Gaozu with the common sense of the famous teacher Buddha Tucheng (232-348). Read the Maitreya Sutra and worship the Maitreya Pure Land. So I read the Buddha's oath in front of the Maitreya statue and vowed not to die in the afterlife. Daoan's thoughts influenced him again.

Huiyuan (334-4 16), a native of Loufan, Yanmen, Eastern Jin Dynasty (now Yan County, Shanxi Province), was eager to learn since childhood. 13 years old, went to Luoyang to study with his uncle. At the age of 2 1, he went to Taihang Mountain to worship Daoan as a teacher and studied law for thirteen years. In the third year of Taiyuan (378), Fu Jian captured Xiangyang and was forced to invite him to Chang 'an to preside over the Fifth Hall. Hui Yuan had to leave his master for a long journey, hoping to practice in Luofu Mountain (now Guangdong). Passing through Xunyang (now Jiujiang, Jiangxi), I was invited by my younger brother to go to sairinji, Lushan Mountain. He speaks the Prajna Sutra of Lushan Mountain, which is very popular. Famous monks and believers from all over the country gathered together. Later, in the east of sairinji, they rebuilt the temple and called it Torinji. There are two big ponds in front of the temple, which were dug for the famous Xie Lingyun with money. There are white lilies in the ponds. In the first year of Yuanxing (402), Hui Yuan and more than 100 celebrities at that time were in the statue of Amitabha in Tuolin Temple in Lushan Mountain.

Before chanting the Buddha's oath, he said: "In this life, I can only see the respect, the rich and the poor, the toil and all kinds of poisons;" Strong is weak, and thieves are against it; Kill and kill, overlap and swallow; Life burns like a fire, and its suffering is beyond words. The pure land in the west is pure and stable, subtle and happy, with fragrant lotus flowers and birds and flowers; In the countryside, there is no limit to the life of heaven and man. Compared with this, how can it be undesirable?

Because of the different roots, there will be a sequence to reach this realm; Whoever gets there first must help the backward comrades achieve their goals. They made a wish in front of the Tolin Temple when the white lotus was in full bloom, and named it the White Lotus Society, which was regarded as the ancestor of the lotus family by the Song people. After Hui Yuan, famous monks came forth in large numbers. In the Tang Dynasty, a famous monk who admired Hui Yuan's association to read Buddhism was a good guide. After reading Guanyin Bodhisattva Sutra, he was amazed and went to Lindong, Lushan Mountain.

From Song Dynasty to Ming Dynasty, Hangzhou gradually became one of the spreading centers of Pure Land Sect, and the masters known as the sixth, seventh and eighth ancestors of Lianzong were all from Hangzhou. The sixth ancestor, Yanshou (904-975), was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang) and his surname was Wang. Qian Hongshu, King of Wu Yue, invited the first generation Yongming Temple (now Jingci Temple, Hangzhou) from Luyin Temple in Hangzhou to preside over it. During the day, I read Buddhist scriptures in Buddhist temples, and at night, I went back to the top of Nanping Mountain to walk the streets.

I am eager to go to the pure land of Amitabha. He advocated both pure Zen and meditation, and his 100-volume Record of Jing Zong became famous at home and abroad, so that the king of Korea (now North Korea) personally sent the famous monk Xiao to Jingci Temple to learn from the scriptures. In the early Song Dynasty (959- 1020), the seventh ancestor lived in Zhaoqing Temple in Hangzhou and admired the legacy of Tuolin Temple and Hui Yuan in Lushan Mountain. In front of Zhaoqing Temple in West Lake, Hangzhou, a worship club attended by more than 1000 famous monks and scholars was established.

/kloc-more than 0/20 people joined the club, vowed to dedicate themselves to the Buddha in front of the statue of Amitabha, and went to the pure land of the West together. The province often pricks its own blood on the spot, enters the ink and copies "Hua Jing Pin Zhi". Each volume worships three times and recites the Buddha's name Amitabha. After the Buddhist scriptures were written, Hang Cheng was stunned. Su Yijian, a bachelor of Hanlin, wrote a preface for this purpose, engraving 1000 copies, which was widely circulated. Eighth ancestor master lianchi (1535— 16 15)?

There are no pains, troubles and quarrels here, only happiness and harmony.

The leader of this paradise is Amitabha. According to the "Infinite Life Sutra" and "Amitabha Sutra", a long time ago, there was a king named Fazang who abandoned his country and became a monk and practiced Buddhism. He made forty-eight wishes in front of the Buddha, saying that after becoming a Buddha, there would be no hell, hungry ghosts and animals in the pure land of the Buddha under his jurisdiction, and all living beings in the Buddha could sit here and live a comfortable life.

Li Bai: "The heart is like violet in the world."

Meng Jiao: "The Tao proves the purple heart."

Bai Juyi: "Like Bai Lianhua, there is no water in the water."

Meng Haoran: "Look at the lotus net, Fang? Locust arrest copy! ?

Quan Deyu: "I wonder if the empty door is clean, and the lotus can't reach the autumn pond."

Zhao Qian: "Laughter is vain and complacent, and the troubles in the world are all floating clouds."

According to the Buddhist scriptures, there are not dozens of lotus flowers on earth, hundreds of lotus flowers in the sky, and more than a thousand lotus flowers in the pure land. Lotus means from worry to purity, because it grows in the mud and blooms on the water, which has the profound meaning of being clean from mud. In addition to lotus petals, there are lotus petals and lotus seeds, which can be viewed and eaten; Lotus seeds can grow again, and more lotus seeds can be cultivated. Lotus is in full bloom in hot summer water, heat means trouble, water means coolness, that is, it brings coolness to the troubled world. These are the virtues represented by lotus. Therefore, people who are born in the pure land of Buddhism after getting rid of their troubles are all lotus metaplasia.

The sentient beings in the three realms are supported by lust, and the pure land saints are incarnated by lotus flowers. So lotus represents pure merit and cool intelligence. For saints, it is invisible. Before it appeared in ordinary people, it was expressed in a familiar image. Therefore, the Buddha statues we see and the sages of the pure land Buddha countries introduced in Buddhist scriptures are all based on lotus; Whether sitting or standing, they are all on the lotus platform, representing their clean dharma bodies and solemn declarations.
