Hui's surname has a long history, which originated in the Zhou Dynasty, came from Ji's surname and took posthumous title as his surname. According to the Records of the Words and Actions of the Clan, there was a son of heaven named Ji Lang in the Zhou Dynasty. After his death, posthumous title Hui was known as King Hui of Zhou in history, and later generations took the former king of posthumous title as their surname and called Hui.
