Earlier, there was a poor man named Wang Cheng in Gucheng Village who lived by collecting firewood. He gets up at dawn every day, carries a back frame and a sickle, and goes into the ditch (now Longqing Gorge) to collect firewood. Enough for four bundles of firewood, tie it to the back frame with a rope and recite it step by step.
The next day, I got up early, carried firewood on my back, sold it in the collection, exchanged money, bought some coarse grains and brought them back for the whole family to eat.
Day after day, year after year, he always cuts and sells firewood like this, no matter whether it rains or blows, he never stops.
One day, when he came back from collecting firewood, he couldn't walk any further, so he put the firewood on his back on the ground and prepared to rest on a big stone. He took off his broken straw hat, put it on a tall stone, wiped his sweat and studied the stone.
Stone seems to have a nose and eyes, a kind heart and a smile, just like the Buddha in the temple.
Wang Cheng couldn't help kneeling down and kowtowing to the stone Buddha for three times, saying, "Master, you must be very hot standing in this scorching sun! This broken straw hat will give you shade. If you want me to sell more money tomorrow, I'll buy you a new straw hat to wear. " Say that finish, he went to collect firewood.
The next day, Wang Cheng went to gather and sell firewood, and his income was half less than before! He thought to himself, did what I said yesterday come true? Did the Buddha really bless me? That's true. I can't break my word. I bought a new straw hat and put it on the stone Buddha when I passed by Mount Kumgang.
He knelt in front of the stone Buddha, kowtowed devoutly for three times, and said, "Master Shi, if you bless me from now on, when I get rich, I will build you a temple and invite you to live in it, so that you can avoid the hardships of wind, rain and sun."
Strange to say, that night, Wang Chenggong came back with firewood on his back. During the break, he took a sickle in his hand and made two strokes on the ground unconsciously like mowing grass. Unexpectedly, two big ingots miraculously appeared. His eyes lit up at once, and the unexpected money made his heart thump.
When Wang Cheng got the ingot, he began to use it as capital to start a business. Hey! It is strange that everything he does goes smoothly. In a few years, Wang succeeded in making a fortune. He bought a house and land and became the richest man in Gucheng Village.
Once a firewood man, he is now a member of the staff, and his daily life and diet are served by a maid. What a style!
After Wang Cheng became rich, he only cared about his own enjoyment and had long forgotten his promise to build a temple for the stone Buddha.
One day, I was sitting in a plush chair sorting out business accounts. Suddenly, an old man came in and looked at him kindly. He feels so familiar! I just can't remember where I have seen it.
The old man smiled and said to him, "What, you don't know me?"
"I ... I really can't remember." Wang Cheng embarrassed tunnel.
The old man casually took out something. When Wang Cheng saw it, it turned out that he had worn a straw hat for many years.
Ah! Then he remembered that the old man in front of him was actually a stone Buddha a few years ago! He was about to kneel and bow when the old man drifted away. He wants to kick him out. I don't know what tripped him. His forehead hit the table of the Eight Immortals. A pain made him open his eyes. It was a dream.
Recalling the broken straw hat, he remembered everything. He called himself an ungrateful man and was carried away by good times.
The next day, Wang Chenggong bought bricks and wood, and hired clay sculptors to build a temple for the stone Buddha. Half a year later, the Stone Buddha Temple was successfully built. The temple has five main halls and three east-west halls.
After arranging everything in the temple, the stone Buddha was invited in. He also asked masons to carve some small stone statues in the hall. Because the temple is full of stone statues, it is called Shifang Temple, and because it was built in front of Mount Kumgang, it is also called Kongge Temple. The original temple was destroyed after liberation, but it has now been restored.
