Do you know what a bridge book is? Simply put, it is a transitional book for children from graphic reading to pure text reading.
When we first started parent-child reading, the books children came into contact with were mainly picture books. At this time, pictures actually play a very important role in reading, such as guessing how much I love you. Picture information has almost become the dominant clue of the whole book, and children can understand the meaning of the book even if they don't know words.
After children go to primary school to read independently, the books they read are like this. If children don't understand the meaning of words themselves, there is no way to continue reading. The following is my surviving series and the Wizard of Oz that my children are watching.
Don't underestimate such changes, in fact, it is not a small cognitive challenge for children. Song Juzhi, reviewer of UNESCO Asian Cultural Center and vice president of China-Japan Children's Literature and Art Exchange Center, pointed out:
"Children aged five or six read books, mostly staring at words or pinyin one by one, that is to say, they are not reading books, but looking at words. In this case, children are unlikely to understand the story in the book, let alone appreciate it, and the content in the book will not stay in their memory, so it will not bring spiritual growth to children. "
Therefore, in order to avoid killing children's interest in reading prematurely, Qiaoshu has gradually emerged in this atmosphere. As a kind of books between picture books and pure text books, bridge books help children to make a good connection and realize the transition from "pure reading pictures" to "reading words but unable to relate meaning" and then to "independent reading".
Today's article, @ Lin and I will tell you about it.
The ratio of words and pictures is about 1: 1, and the ratio of words and pictures is half or slightly larger.
Obviously different from the picture books suitable for young reading, the plot of the bridge book is mainly explained by words, and the picture is a supplement, not a protagonist, but a tool to help children understand words.
Hashimoto is not unique to one language. It can be said that every language in the world has Hashimoto.
For children in transition, Qiaoshu is a good companion. The function of bridge books is to help children transition from parent-child reading to independent reading, and from reading pictures to reading words. Therefore, Qiaoshu is especially suitable for children from kindergarten to grade one or two in primary school, ranging in age from 4 to 8.
"The Book of Bridges" has a variety of painting styles, but its form is not unique. So many friends often can't tell the difference between "bridge book" and graded reading. Let me make an intuitive metaphor to help you understand the Book of Bridges.
Graded reading series can be said to be dinner, while Hashimoto is dessert. Dinner is for full, scientific and nutritious, and dessert is the light of life to enhance happiness.
In a broad sense, graded reading series is very suitable as an aid to in-class learning, because it is synchronized with the class and carefully selected, which helps children to further improve their reading ability and language ability.
I wrote an article about Chinese graded reading before: "Book Selection Guide: How to choose a good set of Chinese graded reading?" 》
As an interesting and personalized theme book, Bridge Book is more about expanding children's reading field. The length of the story is moderate, and the theme generally does not instill profound concepts, but is close to children's lives to arouse children's interest in reading.
Qiaoduanshu encourages children to choose their own themes and like their favorite types.
The purpose of the bridge book is to help children with little literacy to transition to independent reading and to stimulate children's interest in reading to the maximum extent, so the difficulty of the text, language style and aesthetic feeling of the picture are very important.
Today, the evaluation of bridge books is generally based on the interesting, legible and aesthetic aspects of the text, giving the recommended comprehensive index, and then cooperating with the comprehensive evaluation and explanation.
The classification of picture books is also roughly divided into two categories: "interesting stories" and "interesting worlds" according to subject areas.
Among them, "funny stories" recommend fictional works with the theme of telling funny stories; Interesting World recommends introducing works of science, nature and history through stories.
The following bridge books are selected from a large number of bridge books purchased by Lin according to her evaluation and the actual use of children (sometimes our parents may not buy them for their beloved children, which you must have a deep understanding).
Children have been familiar with and read each set of books for more than 2 months. Equipped with a large number of real photos, full of sincerity, I hope to bring you the most authentic feedback.
Now, let's go to the recommended link of the bridge book. There are thirteen * * * series recommendations today:

This set of books is my children's favorite. It tells the story of small animals on the farm, surrounding the Ksenya Goryachova Camilla family and their good friends.
My children not only read by themselves, but also listen to audio while watching, and now they are heavy materials that our parents must read before going to bed every night: a book every night, he reads one page and I read one page in turn.
Almost every book in this set can make children laugh and roll on the bed, with pictures and texts. The characters in it are vivid and lovely, very three-dimensional, and it is very innovative to combine fictional stories with many historical figures and events.
I heard that many children are loyal fans of this set of books, which is equivalent to the status of Piggy Peggy to young children.
From my observation, it seems that no child, whether boy or girl, doesn't like this series of stories. And the translation style is good, the words are vivid and accurate, and there are many idioms and proverbs.
The conclusion is that parents can close their eyes.
2. "Detective Dog Series" (a set of 5 volumes)

This is another set of books without children or fanaticism. This is not a bridge book in the strict sense. After all, it is mainly comics with few words.
However, as a comic book that pays attention to independent reading, it needs a certain cognitive threshold, and too young children may not understand the humorous logic behind the comic book. So I put this set of books in the recommendation of Qiaoshu.
Our family laughed at Sisif Bookstore after seeing it, which affected the reading of the children around us, so the old mother had to buy the baby and leave quickly. The room was silent, and a burst of crazy laughter suddenly broke out, which was basically when he was reading this set of books.
As a mother with strict literary training, I couldn't accept this pure American funny book at first and felt that I lacked the necessary nutrients. Really, as a big book buyer who never hesitates to buy books, I resisted when I bought this book.
Now I realize that this is definitely my prejudice. I have always said that children should try different styles. Why did they start to resist humorous cartoons with double standards?
Reading should never be so serious, but should be everyday and relaxed. The English version of this set of books sells well, and the Chinese version is also a sales miracle in China. This fully shows that the humor of this book can really attract children.
3. Dolphin Picture Book Garden: Hans Bill Picture Book Series (6 volumes in total)

This set of books is the work of the Dutch children's painter Hans Beer. I bought this set of books because I was attracted by the style of painting. The painting style of this set of books completely poked my ideal imagination of fairy tale scenes and characters when I was a child. I felt beautiful, clean and warm, so I did not hesitate to start.
The story style is also a story between loving and warm animals. The conflict of the story is not strong, and it is not won by the ups and downs of the plot. I call this kind of book light plot.
So, I don't know whether our children read many stories with strong plots or whether this style is more suitable for the little girl's aesthetics. Our children reacted to this set of books in general, but my old mother read it with relish many times.
You can buy it and have a look. I think it is a very good picture book with a very good aesthetic. But you should know, just like us adults, reading novels is exciting, while prose is relatively dull. This is a similar feeling among children, which is equivalent to the feeling that we adults read lyric prose.
4. Sharp Mouse Adventure Series (***8 Volumes)

Personally, I prefer Japanese picture book style. Because I read a Ph.D. in design and read many books and works on Japanese design, I almost accepted the more famous Japanese children's books on the market.
The aesthetic style of Japanese children's books is as diverse as the design, and each category can achieve the ultimate of this category.
For example, Miyanishi's dinosaur series and Mouse Brother series are completely different in style, but they are both deeply loved by children, and I think they are also good aesthetic education materials. The same is true of this set of "The Adventure of Pointy Mouse".
The author is both a writer and a painter. The whole story revolves around the theme of nature, which is very interesting and vivid. I really like the sharp mouse inside.
However, because the illustrations of this series of books are all black and white, the attraction to children will inevitably weaken and parents need to guide them. When children get into the context of the story, they have no problem reading it.
5. Fairy Tales of Kenji Miyazawa Small Forest (10 set)

This set is also a children's book for everyone in Japan. Let's take a look at the official evaluation and the author's introduction.
Today, I recommend a complete set of books, with the smallest proportion of characters and the largest number of characters. In terms of stories, some ideas about stories around nature are novel. But this novelty is not necessarily fun, but the concept is a little different. So our children sometimes feel that the words are a little messy when they are reading, haha, it's especially fun.
I have always cherished the freshness of reading, just like when you travel to a place, the local special food surprises you, and there must be a feeling of surprise at that time. You can't even say it must be a good feeling. But this special experience is actually very precious. Perhaps this is the most unforgettable part of your trip.
The same is true of reading. It is no problem to continue according to our own taste, but as a rich man, we always have to try everything. The same is true of the books we give our children. Parents inevitably choose books for their children according to their own preferences. In fact, sometimes they prefer food.
I strongly recommend this set of books, but the reason for recommendation is a little different, that is, I hope everyone can see different beauty and give children a change.

This set of books is the kind of ups and downs that grow on children's jokes throughout the book, and it is also a classic series. Everyone at home who is particularly interested in mice should like this series.
As a set of works edited in the form of standard bridge books, I personally feel that this set of books is more suitable for children from grade one to grade two or three in primary school.
Compared with other works, this set of books has a slightly larger proportion of words. If a large class of kindergarten children start reading, it may take a large proportion of parents and children to read.
At present, this set of books is constantly updated, and 75 volumes have been published, which is simply a children's American drama. Because I can't grasp the children's acceptance, I only bought the first set at present. So far, the effect is not bad.
7. Crazy School (a set of 6 volumes)

This series was recently introduced, translated by Ren Rongrong, a big coffee maker of children's literature, and recommended by many big coffee makers. This series is somewhat similar to the rice circle series, which is easier to win children's songs from the perspective of children.
For all kinds of unhappy little problems in school, this set of books are all solved with humorous angles and stories. But to be honest, I think the story of this book is very interesting, and the overall quality is guaranteed, but at present, the children at home have not completely fallen in love with it.
Of course, there are many reasons for this. It may be because he is more interested in books and has not been able to read this set carefully, or it may be because of his personal preference. So I recommend this set here, based on my personal feelings.

1. Science knows everything (Volume ***24)

For a while, I was very worried about my children's "reading partial eclipse". I think he has read too many story books, especially the audio ones. I feel that the child's mind is immersed in the story all day. This kind of thing happened in "Captain Black Cat" and "Different Ksenya Goryachova Camilla" in Journey to the West. Science books are rarely involved, so I searched online and bought this set.
I didn't expect him to like this set of books very much. He read all 24 books in two days, after school. After the parent-child reading before going to bed, we also have a cycle of about a week, reading 2-3 books every day. Therefore, even telling science stories can be very relaxed and lively.
At the end of each book, the children are willing to try some small test tasks, and they tell me the principle with relish.
Therefore, if you want children to easily understand some scientific knowledge, this set of books has a relaxed style and sufficient nutrients.

This is probably the most famous series. There are various versions, from graphic-oriented to pinyin-reading versions. I bought the version of the bridge book, which should be the least recommended person today. So it is very suitable for kindergarten classes to start reading.
It is estimated that many children have heard the audio of Magic Bridge, so it is not difficult to read bridge books, which is a good proportion of information and interest. If you want to know scientific knowledge, this set is a good introduction.
So the conclusion of this set is also: close your eyes and enter.
3. Desperate Survival Series III Adventures in the Insect World (Volume ***3)

This series of books is divided into many topics, and I only chose this one. Because the children at home were particularly interested in insects at that time, I bought a series of books about insects.
This set of books is also in the form of pure comics. The text includes dialogues and descriptions of concepts related to knowledge points. Compared with picture book reading, children actually need relatively mature logical thinking to sort out their thoughts when reading comic books, in which pictures and words are equally important.
You can buy a series of books according to your hobbies. If the acceptance is good, buy something else. There is no need to buy them all at once.
4. Entomology of Children in China (6 volumes in total)

Fables's entomology is estimated to be available in every family, no matter which version. Take our family as an example. There are two versions of Hashimoto recommended this time, one set and two pinyin reading versions.
Entomology is an extracurricular reading for primary and middle school students in the new curriculum standard of the Ministry of Education. According to different ages, the versions on the market have been adapted, rewritten and illustrated in different degrees for different ages.
The illustrations in this series of bridge books are very nice. Let me show you a page. It is a more exquisite and natural style, which is highly accepted by children.
However, it should be noted that the proportion of words in this set of books is not small, and the words are more difficult. If independent reading requires at least a literacy level below grade one, then reading in grades two and three will be smoother. Therefore, it is suggested that young children start with parent-child reading.

This set of books is also an online celebrity book for a period of time. Our grandmother bought it for her children from a WeChat official account a year ago.
This is actually one of the few historical enlightenment books in our family, which shows that my own "reading partial eclipse" is also very serious. I am not involved in history myself, and I didn't learn well in school before, so it seems natural to block this important field when I choose books for my children. I'm afraid I haven't taken the initiative to buy it if my grandmother didn't buy it strongly.
However, after reading it with children, I found that the way of telling children about history in this set of books is still very interesting, and the children are well accepted.
However, it may be because the historical theme itself is not as coherent and compact as the theme story, so I will spend a fixed time reading this book with my children. In other words, when you have enough freedom of choice, children will not choose this set to read at will.
Of course, it may not be the child's problem, but mine. In the enlightenment stage, I did introduce too little history.

I'm actually a little nervous about putting this one in. Because I know that many parents (in fact, not to mention others, obviously myself) are a little ambivalent about Mi Xiao's whole series of books: on the one hand, children really like them, but on the other hand, they feel that the content is not nutritious enough.
If you disagree, clap your hands. Here I also talk about my personal feelings. It is this kind of book that is completely confined to children's jokes. I think it's a little too popular with children, and there is no information increment. In other words, books that we often say are suitable for children should be "hard to reach on tiptoe". Whether it is information difficulty, knowledge depth, aesthetic style, etc. I prefer the leading role.
In my opinion, "the school in the honey circle" is a bit like popcorn to please children.
But since children inevitably have to study, because children can communicate with each other, so I didn't completely resist, but thought I had a compromise strategy: I chose this series of comic idioms (about how a middle-aged mother is a chicken thief). The subconscious may be: How many idioms can you get at least when you are funny? (Anyway, it is this typical middle-aged mentality that is completely despised by children. )
Needless to say, the children are actually aware of it-they have learned a lot of idioms with a cheerful face.
Breathe a sigh of relief.
Every time we recommend sharing children's books, we are super happy. Because they love to buy and watch, the baby at home is also a bookworm with strong horsepower. Every time we receive a large box of express delivery, we will try to unpack it in the first time.
When I choose books for my children, I usually choose them according to my consideration of the author, content, subject matter, publishing house and other factors, especially when my children are young, what they read basically depends on what I buy. After entering the kindergarten class, I will buy a book with a theme more according to his interests at that time, and pay attention to the horizontal and vertical expansion.
For example, he was particularly interested in the contents of DK's nature encyclopedia about insects for a while, especially when he caught a mantis in the summer vacation of kindergarten middle class. I feel that he has been fascinated by the insect world since then, so he bought a lot of books on insects. Several insect series recommended today were bought during this period.
The advantage of buying books in this way is to follow the children's ideas, and children will have great enthusiasm for this kind of content, which also promotes the autonomy of reading.
Since the bridge book is a dessert for children to read, it is necessary to respect children's preferences to the maximum extent and let children fully enjoy reading. After all, such books are the least utilitarian. Of course, in the general direction, we will definitely give priority to well-known works by well-known authors and well-known publishing houses.
You may find that many of the things I share today are personal and emotional. This is also my understanding of bridge books: I value intuitive feelings more than completely objective and scientific evaluation of such books. After all, purely informational things can be directly seen in the product details of major book buying platforms.
Similarly, you are welcome to continue to recommend other good-looking books to me, and I will further enrich the children's book list.
Read with your children. After all, we didn't have the chance to read so many good books when we were young, and it is great happiness to see them now.
Happy reading!
