Holding a grand emperor's wedding and establishing a queen may have the effect of whitewashing peace. Out of this idea, Wang Mang sent beauty contests to the whole country amid the clamor of peasant uprising, and groups of beautiful women were sent to Chang 'an, Beijing as teachers. After layers of screening, Wang Mang finally chose the daughter of Ling Du historian as the queen. This year, Wang Mang was sixty-eight years old, and he was already an old man with white hair and beard.
