The "Four Histories" refer to the four official histories in the history of China, namely, Historical Records, Hanshu, Houhanshu and the History of the Three Kingdoms. These historical books are the most important historical documents in ancient China, and their compilation time spans over two thousand years, covering the historical content from ancient legends to the Three Kingdoms period.
There is a close logical relationship and certain laws between them, which are briefly introduced below:
1, Historical Records and Hanshu
Historical Records is the first biographical general history in the history of China, written by Sima Qian, a historian of the Western Han Dynasty. Hanshu is the official history compiled by Ban Gu, a historian of Han Dynasty, after Historical Records. It is divided into two parts, mainly recording the history of the Western Han Dynasty.
Logical relationship: Hanshu is written on the basis of Shiji, which can be regarded as the continuation and development of Shiji. Historical Records is the pinnacle of Han Dynasty historiography, and Hanshu is the refinement and supplement of Historical Records. The two works are interrelated and can be regarded as an important node in the development of China's historiography.
2. The Book of the Later Han Dynasty and The Romance of the Three Kingdoms
The Book of the Later Han Dynasty is an official history compiled by Ye Fan, a historian at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, which mainly records the history at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The History of the Three Kingdoms is the official history written by Chen Shou, a famous historian in the Three Kingdoms period. Later, people supplemented and continued to write the History of the Three Kingdoms.
Logical relationship: The History of the Later Han Dynasty has a clear historical relationship with the History of the Three Kingdoms. The Book of the Later Han Dynasty mainly records the history of the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, while The History of the Three Kingdoms is a detailed record and study of the history of the last years of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. Together, the two books constitute a historical panorama of the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period, which is of great value to the study of the history of this period.
3. Historical Records and the History of the Three Kingdoms
Historical Records is the earliest record of the history of the Three Kingdoms in China's ancient history books, while The History of the Three Kingdoms is a detailed and systematic history book of the Three Kingdoms period.
Logical relationship: Historical Records is the first chronological history book in the history of China, which briefly records the history of the Three Kingdoms period and plays an important role in the creation of the history of the Three Kingdoms. The History of the Three Kingdoms can be regarded as the further development and perfection of the historical content of the Three Kingdoms in Historical Records. These two books together constitute an important record of the history of the Three Kingdoms in China's ancient history books.
