Founded in 1954, the school is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine in China, which has gone through such historical periods as Jiangsu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu New Medical College and Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (after the establishment was restored).

1995, renamed Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. From 2065438 to September 2007, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was selected as a national "double-class" construction university. ?

As of 2065438+September 2009, the school has 33 undergraduate majors; 3 national key disciplines and 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines; There are 4 first-level disciplines and 1 professional degree doctoral degree authorization points,1/first-level discipline master degree and 5 professional master degree authorization points, and 3 post-doctoral research stations; There are more than 20,000 students of all kinds. As of July 2020, the school has three campuses: Xianlin, Hanzhongmen and Taizhou.
