The School of History of Beijing Normal University has become an important base for history teaching and scientific research in China. It is one of the earliest institutions in China to set up a postdoctoral mobile station and obtain the right to confer a doctorate in history. 1994 was established as the first batch of national talent training and scientific research bases for basic disciplines of humanities and social sciences. 200 1 was rated as the national excellent base, and it was the national key construction unit of "21/project" and "985 project".

The college has a full range of courses and a strong faculty. There are 1 national key disciplines, 1 key research bases of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 7 doctoral programs and 8 master programs. There are 30 in-service professors, 29 doctoral supervisors and "985" engineering professors 10; Associate professor 19. Among them, He Ziquan, Gong Shuduo, Liu Jiahe and other well-known professors at home and abroad, as well as a group of young and middle-aged scholars.

Since 1980s, many well-known scholars have served as leaders of colleges (departments and institutes), and the current president is Professor Yang Gongle.
