There is no textual research on the ending of Hong Xiguan and Fang Shiyu in history. People have different opinions about the ending of Hong Xiguan and Fang Shiyu. Fang Shiyu and Hong Xiguan tells the story that after the Qing soldiers burned the temple, the monks in Shaolin Temple suffered heavy casualties, and only a few people escaped from the encirclement of the Qing soldiers. Hong Xiguan, a lay disciple, was seriously injured and fled down the mountain to make a comeback. Being hunted by the scum of Wulin who took refuge in the imperial court, he almost fell into the hands of Qing soldiers several times.

One day, he met the Qing soldiers again, and Fang Shiyu happened to pass by in the battle. Although Fang Shiyu had long heard of Hong Xiguan's fame, he had never seen anyone else. This time, when he saw Hong Xiguan hurting others, he was brave. He caught him with Shaolin Kung Fu and handed him over to the government.

Two days later, Fang Shiyu got together with a group of Wulin Rightists, and learned that Hong Xiguan had been captured by the Qing soldiers, only then did he know that he had caught Hong Xiguan by mistake. In regret, Fang Shiyu and other Wulin Rightists discussed how to rescue Hong Xiguan.
