The historical selectivity of the people is, in the final analysis, the selectivity of the people. Why?
From the macroscopic historical development, a nation and a country have certain choices. This is because in the process of social development, the complexity and diversity of contradictions and various intricate relationships make the development of things present many possibilities. When a nation or country is at a turning point in history, social development often shows many different ways. Which one may become a reality depends not only on objective conditions and circumstances, but also on it.

In the process of social development, the selectivity and function of human behavior cannot be arbitrarily exaggerated. The objective historical regularity and the determinacy of social development are the first, and human choice is the second. It can't make historical development go against its own laws.

First of all, the choice of subject is based on non-selection. In social activities, any generation chooses its own development path according to its own national conditions. However, on the question of whether a nation follows the general law of social development and the general order of social form alternation, people have relatively little choice, because on the one hand, only at the juncture of social alternation can people ask the question of choosing different social forms; On the other hand, it is only possible to make such a leap in the course of world history and the development of the international situation, and a country or nation has the opportunity to choose a social form. Moreover, even if it is possible in the historical process and the international situation, there is still a problem of national conditions and internal conditions of the nation. Therefore, not every country or nation has the opportunity to leap forward in social form.

Third, the choice of the subject in this possible space is not completely arbitrary. In fact, the motivation of people's behavior and the intention of people's choice are also restricted by objective social conditions. The reason why a certain class has this purpose, this choice, and this specific motivation to take action is not arbitrary and has no reason, but is determined and influenced by various conditions. The genius of historical materialism lies in that when people's subjective motives play a role in their choices, they also ask why they have such motives, that is, why they have such motives. In particular, the strong motivation that urges the whole class and the whole nation to take action reflects their own decisions by objective conditions.

Finally, the result of the choice of the subject is also determined by social laws. When people make a choice, of course, they expect the result of this choice, hoping to produce beneficial social development consequences through their own choices. But whether a choice can achieve their expected goals and promote social development depends not only on people's behavior and efforts, but also on the objective conditions and process of society. Determined by social laws, if they go against the historical trend, violate social laws and make the choice of reversing history, then their choice will not succeed in the end and will be denied by history. Therefore, people's historical selectivity is also social selectivity, and in the final analysis, it is also people's selectivity.
