The College of History and Culture of Henan University, formerly known as the History Department of Zhongzhou University, was founded in 1925, and is one of the earliest departments of Henan University. The college has a long history and a strong faculty. For a long time, it has formed an academic tradition of blending Chinese and western cultures, linking ancient and modern times, and paying equal attention to historical knowledge and common sense. It enjoys a high reputation at home and has a certain influence abroad. Famous experts and scholars, Ji, Meng, Li, Ma, Zhu Fangpu, Sun Zuoyun, Huang Yuanqi, Hu Siyong and Han Chengwen have taught here successively. Those who studied here, such as Shi, Bai Shouyi and Han Rulin, have also become famous historians and archaeologists at home and abroad, and their strong academic atmosphere has given birth to generations.

China ancient history is a provincial key discipline, China ancient history and world history are excellent courses in Henan Province, and tourism management is a school-level key training discipline. The newsletter "New History", founded in 195 1, is now "Historical Monthly" and belongs to the core journals of domestic history. The late famous historian Mr. Guo Moruo wrote the title of the journal, which has great influence in the field of history at home and abroad. The Historical and Cultural Forum, an academic publication founded by students themselves, 1977 has been published for more than 40 issues, and it is an exchange publication for the history departments of colleges and universities all over the country.
The College of History and Culture consists of four departments, namely, the Department of History, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Culture and the Department of World History. It has China Ancient History Research Center, a research base of humanities and social sciences in Henan Province, and scientific research institutions such as Song History Institute, World History Institute, Modern China Institute, Jewish Institute and Tourism Planning and Development Center of Henan University. China's major in ancient history has the right to award doctoral degrees (Henan University and National Museum jointly enroll students). It has the right to award master's degree in history, including eight professional directions: historical theory and history, archaeology and museum science, historical geography, historical philology, specialized history, ancient history of China, modern history of China and world history. Tourism management major has the right to grant master's degree, which is the earliest authorization point of master's degree in tourism management in Henan Province. At present, there are more than 200 doctoral and master students and more than a thousand undergraduates.
The antique Building No.7 is the office and scientific research place of the college and the national key cultural relics protection unit. The reference room of the college covers an area of 1.600 square meters, with a collection of1.8000 volumes, more than 200 kinds of publications and more than 30 kinds of newspapers. In particular, large sets of books, such as Si Ku Quan Shu, Qing Shi Lu, Shi Ming Lu, China Modern Historical Materials Series, Republic of China Series, Series Integration, Dunhuang Treasure, Epitaphs of Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties, and Jin Wen Integration, are the treasures of the library. In addition to the rich collection of books, the reference room also has a large number of newspapers from 1930s to 1940s, such as Ta Kung Pao, Shenbao, Shengjing Times, Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Times, Anti-Enemy Newspaper, Government Official Newspaper and other old magazines, such as New Youth, Red China, Oriental Magazine and Women's Life. The richness and variety of books and materials are among the best in the departments of literature and history of colleges and universities in China.
The College's Museum of Cultural Relics covers an area of 3,000 square meters, and now there are exhibitions of China historical relics, China coins-bronze mirrors and China porcelain. * * * There are more than 3,000 collections and more than 300 teaching specimens (including copying models).
