Extended data
Jiangxi was called Jiangyou in ancient times, just west of the ancients. Jiangyou refers to the area west of the Yangtze River-because the section of the Yangtze River from Jinling to Jiujiang runs north-south, so the east, west and left are determined by this section of the Yangtze River. By the Spring and Autumn Period, Jiangyou Land was often called "the land where Wu, Chu and Yue fought for hegemony".
Jiangxi first appeared in historical materials, beginning in the Tang Dynasty. In the first year of Zhenguan (627), the whole country was designated as 10 monitoring area, and Jiangxi belonged to Jiangnan Road. In the twenty-first year of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (733), it increased to 15 Road, and Jiangxi belonged to Jiangnan West Road. This is the first time that the word Jiangxi appeared in China's administrative divisions, thanks to Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.
In the Song Dynasty, it was diverted and Jiangnan Road was initially set up. In the fourth year of Tianxi (AD 1020), Jiangnan Road was divided into Jiangnan East Road and Jiangnan West Road, most of which belonged to Jiangxi Jiangnan West Road.
