The origin of the World Cup
Modern football originated in England, although it is very popular all over the world. Due to the development of football, international competitions have also appeared. 1896, when the first modern Olympic Games was held in Greece, football was listed as an official event. Denmark beat Greece 9-0 and became the first football champion in the Olympic Games. Because professional athletes are not allowed to participate in the Olympic Games, by 1928 (the ninth Olympic Games), the football match could not last.
1928 After the Olympic Games, FIFA held a representative meeting and unanimously adopted the resolution to hold the World Football Championship every four years. This has played a positive role in promoting the further development and improvement of world football. Brazil
At first, this new football game was called "World Football Championship". 1956, FIFA decided to change its name to "Rimet Cup" at its meeting in Luxemburg. This is in recognition of Rimet, a Frenchman and former FIFA president, for his achievements in football. Rimet has been the president of FIFA for 33 years (192 1- 1954), and is the initiator and organizer of the World Football Championship. Later, it was suggested that the two names be linked, called "World Football Championship-Rimet Cup". Therefore, at the Helsinki meeting, it was decided to change its name to "World Football Championship-Rimet Cup" or "World Cup" for short.
The trophy of the World Cup is 1928. FIFA's prize specially made for the winner was cast by Friel, a famous Parisian jewelry technician. Its model is Nikai, the legendary Greek goddess of victory. She was wearing an ancient Roman tunic, with her arms straight and a big cup in her hand. The statue, made of pure gold, weighs1800g and is 30cm high, and stands on a marble pedestal. This cup is a mobile prize. Whoever wins the championship can keep the gold cup for four years and return it to FIFA before the next World Cup, so that it can be awarded to the new world champion. There is also an additional rule: whoever wins the world championship three times in a row will always win the second cup.
1970 Uruguay, Italy and Brazil won the 9th World Cup twice. Therefore, everyone has a chance to occupy the second cup forever. As a result, Brazil won the first place and occupied the second cup.
To this end, FIFA has to prepare a new trophy for the next champion. 1971may, FIFA held a new cup judging meeting. After reviewing 53 schemes, we decided to adopt the design scheme of Gazania, Italy-the design scheme of two giants holding the earth high with their hands. This figure symbolizes the strength and scale of sports. The new World Cup is named "FIFA World Cup". This cup is 36 centimeters high and weighs 5 kilograms, which was worth 20 thousand dollars at that time. 1974 In the 10 World Cup, West Germany won the new cup as a champion for the first time. This time, FIFA stipulates that the new cup is a mobile prize, and no matter which team wins many championships, it can't occupy this cup.
The origin of the World Cup
In the history of FIFA World Cup, there have been two FIFA World Cup trophies, and the first time it has gone through hardships.
After FIFA decided to hold the first FIFA World Cup in 1930, the French sculptor Abel La Fleur made a pure gold trophy for the winning team. The trophy is an octagonal trophy sculpture, held by the goddess of victory with open arms on a pedestal inlaid with precious stones.
In memory of President Rimet, the founder of the FIFA World Cup, this trophy was named "World Cup". But in the three World Cups before the outbreak of World War II (1930, 1934, 1938), it was only called the World Cup. Brazil, as the only country that won the triple crown, has been occupying this trophy since it won the championship in 1970.
During World War II, in order to avoid the invading army, the trophy was hidden under the bed of an Italian family. 1966, it was stolen in the process of opening the exhibition to the public before the World Cup in Britain. Although searched by the British police in many ways, they all ended in failure. In the end, the trophy was found in the trash can in the suburbs by a mongrel dog named Pickets.
1983, the trophy was stolen again in Brazil. It is estimated that the trophy had been melted by the thief at that time. The Brazilian Football Association made a replica, which has been preserved to this day.
The second FIFA World Cup trophy was selected by FIFA from 53 designs and awarded at the FIFA World Cup held in 1974. The trophy was made of 18K gold by Italian sculptor Silvio Gazazniga. According to his introduction, the image of the trophy includes "the spiral rising from the ground is supporting the earth, which strongly shows the passion of victory moment".
This trophy is 36cm( 14 inch) high and weighs 4970g( 1 1), belonging to FIFA. The world cup champion team can get a gold-plated replica.
Legends of "Rimet Cup" and "World Cup"
The Origin of the Delaunay Cup (European Championship Trophy)
Henry. Delaunay:
French, the first secretary-general of UEFA, whose term of office was from1June 1954 15 to1June 1955 19551October 9, and died suddenly.
Mr. Delaunay's contribution to the European Cup;
As early as 1927, Henry? Delaunay and Hugo of Austria? Misu put forward the idea of establishing the European Cup, suggesting that the championship and the World Cup should be held alternately, and the qualifiers should be held every two years. 1954 When UEFA was founded in Bern, it once again put forward this suggestion: "The competitions are attended by European national football associations, and there should not be too many competitions in the final stage. This tournament will not conflict with the World Cup, nor will it require exactly the same players to participate. Finally, the first European Cup was held with 1958. Unfortunately, Mr Delaunay has passed away.
What contribution has Mr. Delaunay made to football?
He is also one of the advocates and promoters of French football and European football. At the age of 23, he held an important position in the predecessor organization of the French Football Association and suggested the establishment of Charles? Simon Cup-the predecessor of the French Cup. Since 1930, he has also served as the representative of the international affairs department of FIFA, and made many contributions to improving the system of this tournament.
Award and preservation of trophies:
The champion of every European Championship will be awarded to Henry? The Delaunay Cup, but this trophy itself belongs only to UEFA. The champion team can only have one replica trophy marked "replica" and the size is not more than four-fifths of the original trophy as a souvenir.
Who has the right to keep the original trophy forever:
UEFA stipulates that only countries that have won the European Championship three times in a row or five times in total can have Henry's original figure? Delaunay trophy. Up to now, no national team has been able to meet the above standards, and the German team that has won the most championships is the German team that has reached the top three times (including the champions won before the former Federal Republic of Germany 199 1).
Design and production of trophies:
The trophy has a unique shape and was designed by Arthur in Paris. Bertrand designed and produced it in 1960, and the cost was 2025 1 franc at that time, and it was all silver. At present, the estimated price is around 22,500 euros. The trophy weighs 8 kg with the base, with a clear height of 42 cm and a base height of 50 cm. The captain of the champion team can easily lift it above his head.
