The World Women's Volleyball Championship is divided into three stages.
The first stage: 24 teams are divided into four groups: A, B, C and D, with 6 teams in each group. After a single cycle in the group, the group ranking is determined, the top four teams advance to the second stage, and the fifth and sixth teams are eliminated; At this stage, each team will play five games.
The second stage: the 16 teams advanced in the group stage are divided into two groups: E and F. The E group is the top four in groups A and D, and the F group is the top four in groups B and C. Each group has eight teams, and the single round robin system is still adopted. At the same time, the results of the same team in the first stage will be carried into the second stage, that is, the teams played in the first stage will not participate in the second stage. The top two in each group directly enter the top four.
The third stage: The top two players in Group E and Group F will cross the semi-finals, and the winners will be the first and second runners-up, E 1-F2 and F 1-E2.
