The Sino-British Joint Declaration, that is, the Joint Declaration of the Government of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is a statement on the Hong Kong issue jointly issued by People's Republic of China (PRC) (China for short) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on February 9.
The statement pointed out that the recovery of Hong Kong (including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the "New Territories") is the common aspiration of all China people, and the People's Republic of China (PRC) government decided to resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong on 1 June 65438+July197. On July 6th, 1997, the government of the United Kingdom returned Hongkong to People's Republic of China (PRC).
The statement also listed China's basic policies towards Hongkong. Under the principle of "one country, two systems", the China Government will ensure that the socialist system will not be implemented in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and that Hong Kong's own capitalist system and way of life will remain unchanged for 50 years. These basic policies were later stipulated in the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
