The Historical Evolution of bremerhaven
Since the19th century, the channel of Weixi River has become shallow due to siltation. On the contrary, ships are getting bigger and bigger, and it is impossible to enter the inland river port of Bremen. The urgent task is to move the port to a place where merchant ships can easily berth. After nearly two years of negotiations with the Kingdom of Hanover, on June1827 65438+1October1day, the Kingdom of Hanover signed an agreement to transfer an 84-hectare land north of the intersection of the Gerst River and the Weser River to the "Free Hanseatic City of Bremen" and named the city "Bremen".
