The first opium war 1840 ~ 1842

Both parties: China and Britain.

Reason: The trade is unbalanced, and Britain dumped opium to China.

Later: British warships went north along the southeast coast and attacked the city all the way.

Results: China signed the first unequal treaty "treaty of nanking" and ceded Hong Kong Island.

The second opium war 1856 ~ 1860

Both sides: Britain and China.

Reason: Its essence is the continuation and expansion of the Opium War.

What happened: Guangzhou was conquered, Dagukou fell, and Yuanmingyuan, the essence of the world garden, was looted and burned.

Results: After signing the "Beijing Treaty" with other powers, China once again lost a lot of sovereignty and territory, and made another big step towards the semi-colonial road. Foreign envoys in Beijing strengthened their influence and control over the Qing government, and China society was further semi-colonized.

Touching story:1On June 25th, 858, the British and French allied forces suddenly attacked Dagu Fort. Under the command of monk Qin, the defenders fought bravely and the battle was extremely fierce. Shi Rongchun, the magistrate of Zhili, and Ruyuan, the deputy commander of the Drum Club, took the lead and were killed successively. As a result of fierce fighting, the British and French allied forces were defeated, losing many ships, killing more than 400 people, and the commander of the British fleet, Herb, was also seriously injured.

Sino-Japanese War 1894 ~ 1895

Both parties: China.

Reason: China, as the suzerain of North Korea at that time, sent troops to attack the Japanese who tried to annex North Korea at the request of North Korea.

What happened: The Qing government lost the Korean Peninsula after repeated wars and defeats, the most elite Beiyang Navy was destroyed, and Japan marched in and ravaged the Northeast.

Results: The most shameful "treaty of shimonoseki" was signed, the suzerainty of South Korea was lost, the Japanese silver was compensated for 200 million taels, and Taiwan Province Province was ceded.
