Distribution: It originates from the western Himalayas and Karakorum Mountains at an altitude of 1300 ~ 3300m, forming pure forests or mixed with conifers, and grows vigorously at an altitude of 1800 ~ 2800m. There are natural forests at an altitude of1200 ~ 3000m in southwest Tibet. Major cities in China are widely cultivated as street trees and garden ornamental trees, and Shaanxi has also introduced them.
Biological and ecological characteristics are suitable for mild and cool climate conditions, with strong cold resistance, large seedlings can withstand low temperature of -25℃ and poor adaptability to hot and humid climate. It is not strict with soil, drought-resistant and barren, but it grows well on deep, fertile, loose and well-drained acidic soil. I prefer light, and I was a little tolerant of shade when I was a child. Shallow root system and weak wind resistance. Growth is slow when young and accelerated after 20 years. The life of origin can reach 800 years. The anti-pollution ability is weak, and young trees are not suitable for sulfur dioxide, chlorine gas and smoke. Dioecious or identical plants, bearing fruit after more than 30 years, interval 1 ~ 2 years.
Afforestation technology is mainly cutting seedling. The thick branches in the middle and upper part of 1 ~ 4-year-old mother tree or outside the crown of1year-old mother tree were selected as cuttings, and the cuttings were treated with ABT rooting powder or NAA aqueous solution in early and middle March. Within the range suitable for cedar growth, mountainous areas or plains, and slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soils can be used for afforestation, as long as the well-drained groundwater level is lower than 1.5 m, but loam or sandy loam with deeper soil layer is better. Fish scale pits can be used for soil preparation. Afforestation should be carried out in early spring, with large seedlings about 1 m and planting density of 3m× 3m. Landscaping should use big seedlings with soil balls. Childhood growth is slow, so it is necessary to loosen the soil frequently to weed, remove vines and support seedlings.
The economic value of cedar heartwood is yellowish brown. Oily, fragrant, rarely cracked, durable. Can be used for building, shipbuilding, furniture and other materials. The tree is majestic, tall and green, and it is a world-famous ornamental and landscaping tree.
