The whole Ryukyu annexed by Japan
Okinawa is the seat of Ryukyu Kingdom, an independent kingdom in history. Since ancient times, it has maintained close cultural exchanges and overseas trade with China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asian countries, so its customs, culture, food, materials and architectural style are quite different from those of Japan.
Ryukyu Kingdom paid tribute to China during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty in China. At the same time, in order not to be invaded by Japanese Samoans, the kingdom also paid tribute to Samoans. 1868 After the Meiji Restoration, Japan began to look around Ryukyu, North Korea and even Taiwan Province Province. In 1872, Japan abandoned the Ryukyu Kingdom and first became a Ryukyu dependency of Japan, then changed to Okinawa Prefecture in 1879.
Okinawa was the only territory directly under the jurisdiction of Japan where the US military landed during the Second World War. At the end of the Second World War, the US military landed in Okinawa on 1945, and defeated the Japanese defenders. Okinawa also established the Yaeyama Republic, which was established only one week ago. After the war, Japan surrendered and was occupied by the US military. Because of its strategic location, Okinawa is directly under the jurisdiction of the US military from 1945 to 1972. 1972, the us military returned Okinawa to Japan, but the us military was still stationed at the military base in Okinawa.
