After the demise of Nazi Germany, the German tank industry was restricted, and almost all large and medium-sized industrial equipment was unloaded by the Soviet Union as war compensation for the Soviet Union. Therefore, most tanks equipped by GDR are Soviet T series. Although the Federal Republic of Germany has not suffered the fate of East Germany, its huge arsenal has been dissolved or turned into a civilian enterprise, so most of the equipment is American tanks. But with the recovery of European countries, France, unwilling to listen to the United States, first extended an olive branch to Germany. In order to regain its own tank industry, Germany and France jointly developed it. However, due to the huge differences in design concepts between the designers of the two countries, the final plan went bankrupt and only a few prototype cars without numbers were produced. Because the design data of German tanks during World War II were either destroyed by the war or taken away by the Soviet Union and the United States for study, Germany faced great difficulties. But even so, Germany still insists on the road of independent research and development. During this period, I got help from the British. The British partially returned the design data of Germany's World War II No.4 tank, but it is still a drop in the bucket for independent research and development.
However, the tenacious style of the Germans is once again revealed. Finally, the birth of the main battle tank code-named "N" marked the rewriting of German tank history. In order to commemorate this hard-won tank, the Germans gave it the title of "Leopard" full of honor in World War II. Up to now, Leopard 2A7 Germany has become a big tank country in Europe, with more armor than Britain and France combined.
