A brief introduction to the life of Rende monk
200 1, August 23rd, 2006, member of the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th sessions of China People's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Advisory Committee of Chinese Buddhist Association, and president of Anhui Buddhist Association. Now that I think about it, it seems to have happened yesterday. Master Ren's voice and smile often appear in my mind, and my yearning for him rises from time to time. As the last waiter of the old monk, I have the responsibility to carry forward the spirit hidden in the soil. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Rengong's silence, I intend to publish a collection of memories of Rende monks and write a few words to express my memory. Master Rende was strict and strict all his life, and he was deeply saddened. He devoted himself to Buddhism all his life, and presided over Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association for a long time before his death. Later, he was appointed as the executive director and vice chairman of the advisory committee of the Chinese Buddhist Association. He has done a lot of fruitful work in assisting the government to implement the policy of freedom of religious belief, restoring places for religious activities, cultivating talents, setting up education, rectifying monasteries, restoring Taoist ethics, promoting Buddhism, conducting academic research on Buddhist culture, vigorously supporting social welfare undertakings, and actively carrying out overseas friendship and international friendly activities. Jiuhua Mountain, as the Dojo of Tibetan Bodhisattva, has a large number of followers and great influence. There are many eminent monks in Jiuhua Mountain in history, and their virtues are boundless. In recent years, with the implementation of the policy of freedom of religious belief, religious activities have become increasingly frequent. In addition, Jin Qiaojue, the incarnation of Tibetan Bodhisattva, is Prince Silla, and Korean Buddhists are eager for Jiuhua Mountain, and their friendship activities with the Buddhist circles in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao are increasing day by day. Therefore, Jiuhuashan Buddhism occupies an important position in the national Buddhist cause. In this unprecedented ten-year catastrophe, the Buddhist cause of Jiuhuashan suffered great losses. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, with the support of the local party and government departments and under the auspices of Master Rende, Jiuhua Mountain was reopened, and many religious staff who left the team for some reason returned to the temple, religious activities were carried out smoothly, and the legitimate rights and interests of the majority of Buddhists were safeguarded. Moreover, Master Rende, as the president of the Buddhist Association of Anhui Province and Jiuhuashan Mountain, also played an important role in the restoration of other famous temples in the province and in the mountain. Many famous ancient temples have been revived, and the imperial clan style has been revived. Master Rende attached great importance to Buddhist education and trained Buddhist talents before his death. Under his auspices, many temples, Jiuhuashan Buddhist College and Buddhist sanatorium were restored. After years of hard work, Jiuhuashan Buddhist College has become a Buddhist college with excellent teaching conditions, strong teachers, the largest number of students, equal emphasis on learning and training, and extensive influence at home and abroad. Hundreds of monks have graduated or graduated, which has cultivated the backbone for monasteries, Buddhist colleges and local Buddhist organizations. He also held two national training courses for temple deacons, which made great contributions to the management and education of Buddhist temples in China. Master Rende, on behalf of the Buddhist community in Jiuhuashan, has donated money to China Buddhist College for many times to support many nursing homes and basic education facilities in mountainous areas. In addition, the master also advocated the establishment of China Buddhist University to gather outstanding talents and Long Shao Buddhists. This initiative has far-reaching significance and great influence. Master Rende attached great importance to strengthening self-construction within Buddhism during his lifetime. He urged to restore the traditional jungle system of temples, rectify the religious order, formulate and improve the temple management system, and make Jiuhua Mountain strict. For Jiuhuashan Buddhist College, he has always adhered to the principle of integration of learning and practice, and the life of monks is a jungle, which makes the school's Taoist style and study style look brand-new. "Carry forward the Tibetan spirit, the hell is not empty, and it will become a Buddha forever", which is the last words left by Master Rende. Throughout his life, he paid special attention to carrying forward the spirit of saving the world of Buddhists and vigorously developing the cause of providing for the aged. Before his death, he founded Jiuhuashan Charity and Merit Association, donated teaching assistants, applied medicine, helped the orphans in disaster relief, and helped the poor. It has been well received and widely praised by the education department and people from all walks of life in the education department. Master Rende is also an internationally renowned Buddhist monk. During his lifetime, he received many visiting national and foreign leaders, distinguished guests and Buddhist personages, visited and lectured abroad, attended international Buddhist conferences, publicized China's religious policies, made many friends, expanded the international influence of China Buddhism, and made important contributions to the development of overseas friendship and international friendship of Buddhism. Master Rende left us, but his spirit will always inspire us to work hard, make positive progress and make contributions to the development of Buddhism in China. Let's briefly introduce the life of Master Rende: Master Rende, common name Li Dehai,1was born in Taixian (now Jiangyan) in June, 926. Among the three brothers, he ranks second. Father Li Yongshu, mother Yu. Due to poor family background, Bodhisattva Wei Tuo became a monk in Taiwei Temple, Tangwan Township, Taixian County on the third day of June in 1936, and has since become a Buddha. In Taiwei 'an, the master teacher taught Rende, who was only 1 1 years old, Confucian classics such as The Analects of Confucius, The Doctrine of the Mean and Mencius systematically for the first time. And then teach him a deep understanding of Buddhist scriptures, be familiar with classics, laws, theories and Tibetan, and pay more attention to practice. 1April, 948, Rende went to Nanjing Gu Lin Temple to ask for the Three Altars Great Ring. 1In the autumn of 949, New China was born. At this time, the news of the Seven Zen in Gaomin Temple in Yangzhou came, and Rende bid farewell to Kanongji and came to Yangzhou. Master Zen Hui fell in love with this young monk who became famous in Buddhism, and Rende was invited to stay overnight. Gaomin Temple pays equal attention to both merit and Zen. Every yogi is both a monk and a worker. He learned to weave straw mats, to be a cashier in a rice shop and to be the leader of a sack factory. Later, he served as a guest of Gaomin Temple. During his guest appearance, he not only managed a thousand-year-old temple in good order, but also won the Zen Yue of "not paying the bill", and then successfully completed the practice of "holding the afternoon". In order to study Buddhism intensively, by going up one flight of stairs,1September, 955, Master Rende left Gaomin Temple to study in Zhong Nanshan, and then came to Xinyi Temple in Yunjushan, Jiangxi Province, where he had close contact with the Zen master Xu Yun. 1September, 957, by chance, he came to Jiuhuashan, Anhui Province to pay homage to the Tibetan Bodhisattva, thus promoting the historical combination of Master Rende and Jiuhuashan, and finally making him an outstanding master of Jiuhuashan, a Buddhist holy place. 1965, Ren De was elected as the vice president and secretary general of Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association. He changed from a lonely monk to a popular Buddhist leader. However, just as he confidently laid the Buddhist blueprint in Jiuhuashan, the "Cultural Revolution" broke out.

In this storm, the Buddha statues in Gion Temple, Gan Luo Temple, Longchi Temple and Suspension Bridge Temple were all damaged. Master Rende was criticized endlessly, and all monks and nuns were driven out of the temple. After the temple lost its incense, it was reported that someone had returned to the temple. Master Rende was so anxious that he organized monks and nuns and set up the Jiuhua Production Brigade. In this team, a comprehensive processing factory was set up to teach the monks the knitting skills learned in Gaomin Temple. There are more than 80 people in this comprehensive processing plant. In those hard days, everyone learned a skill. Relying on their skills, they not only achieved self-reliance, but also absorbed some poor members of the nearby production team into the factory. In this comprehensive factory with both monks and nuns and members, Rende is both a factory director and a craftsman. The self-sufficient labor of monks and nuns effectively prevented the trend of secularization. To this day, people still remember the humble clinic in Shuangxi Temple in the back of Jiuhua Mountain. In that era of lack of medical care and medicine, especially in the vast rural areas, it was really more difficult for rural people to see a doctor than anything else. Master Rende taught himself clinical medicine, and got an ancestral secret recipe-Qianhammer Ointment from an old Chinese doctor. Free of charge for the local people to get rid of suffering, often barefoot walk far away from the mountain road to collect medicine and make house calls. It is affectionately called "Ren Dafu" by the local people, and some people call the old monk "living in Tibet". Patriotism and love for teaching cultivate monks. Master Rende is a virtuous monk who loves patriotism and teaching. After the downfall of the Gang of Four, in order to bring a new Jiuhua to the world, Rende was determined not to increase the burden on the country, but to mobilize the enthusiasm of Buddhist disciples at home and abroad with a sincere patriotism and love for teaching. So, he began a difficult and meticulous fundraising work.

1979 In July of the lunar calendar, Master Yi Sheng, abbot of Hong Kong Baolian Temple, led a delegation of Hong Kong Buddhist community to visit Jiuhua Mountain and gave a lecture. One night, Master Rende went to the hotel where Master Yi Sheng stayed to visit Master Yi Sheng. After greeting, Master Rende solemnly took out a cloth handkerchief from his pocket, held this package of RMB with body temperature in front of Master Yi Sheng, and said, "Old monk, this is my savings for many years. 600 yuan, I want you to buy me some gold foil in Hongkong. I want to make a gold bag for the remaining Buddha statues robbed in the flesh temple. " Master Yi Sheng took 600 yuan and bought less than a fraction of the gold foil. Knowing that the mainland monks coming from the disaster were short of money, they stopped taking it. I thought that as soon as I returned to Hong Kong, my disciples would collect a large sum of money and send it to Jiuhua Mountain without saying hello. However, Master Yi Sheng accepted it. He knew that he had accepted the boiling heart of a mainland monk who loved his country and religion. Faced with this situation, Master Yi Sheng spoke: "Jiuhuashan belongs to all of us, and we all have the obligation to contribute to the restoration of Jiuhuashan." Master Yi Sheng made a decision on the spot and invested 200,000 yuan to repair Jiuhua Mountain. In the same year, the elders in the mountains also donated money to help each other. Soon, 70,000 pieces of gold foil were sent from Hong Kong to Jiuhua Mountain, and donations from all walks of life were also in place. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, Master Rende not only carefully raised funds to restore Jiuhuashan Temple and Buddha statue, but also seriously grasped two major events, especially after he became the 48th abbot of Tanyuan Temple in Jiuhuashan. The first is to carry out friendly exchanges with foreign countries. 1986 12 went to Japan to give lectures at the invitation of Mr. Mori Yoshiro, the head of the Japanese Buddhist Sect; 1In August, 989, he visited the United States at the invitation of Master Xuanhua of Wanfo City, San Francisco, USA. 1991June Tour Hong Kong 5438+ 10; He has visited Singapore six times, South Korea five times and lectured and preached in Canada and other countries many times. The second is to actively train monks. 1986- 1990, Master Rende held the second Sangha training course in Jiuhuashan. The students are all young monks from temples in the whole province and even the whole country. Zhao Puchu, the leader of the State Administration for Religious Affairs and then president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, spoke highly of this training course, calling it "the cradle of Sangha education in Jiuhuashan in the new period" and "a good start for religious work in the whole province and even the whole country". With the efforts of Master Rende, the opening ceremony was held at Jiuhuashan Temple of China Buddhist College on September 6th. 199 1. 19 held a grand opening ceremony, which was the opening ceremony of the first Buddhist college in Anhui Province after the founding of New China. Zhao Puchu, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, attended the meeting and delivered a warm speech, pointing out that cultivating talents is an urgent task for Buddhism in China at present and in the future.

Master Rende studied Buddhism diligently in Jiuhuashan, a Buddhist holy land, and practiced hard for more than 40 years. He always raised his respect for the spirit of Tibetan Bodhisattva, especially when he was old and weak and seriously ill, he still practiced, adding luster to Jiuhua Mountain, a famous Buddhist mountain. Jiuhua Mountain is a towering mountain in the south of the Yangtze River. Compared with Wutai Mountain in Shanxi, Emei Mountain in Sichuan and Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang, Jiuhua Mountain has a unique temple complex in the south of the Yangtze River, but compared with the other three Foshan Mountains, there is something missing. It would be very different if there were symbols representing the image of a bodhisattva. A grand idea that is more realistic than a dream rises in the bosom of Master Rende. He made a vow: In this life, he must build a tall bronze statue of Dizang in Jiuhuashan Dizang Dojo, so that all people who worship Dizang Dojo can raise their respect for the spirit of Bodhisattva. 1In the spring of 995, Master Rende visited Singapore at the invitation of Buddhist scholar Lin. Li Muyuan, director of Singapore Jushilin, warmly received Master Rende. Unconsciously, they talked about the giant Buddha in the Temple of Heaven in Hong Kong and other giant buddhas being built in the mainland. At this time, Li Muyuan suddenly said: "Jiuhua Mountain has become the second hometown of many Buddhist believers, but people always feel that there are some shortcomings. Many laymen who came back from Jiuhuashan said that Jiuhuashan lacked an iconic image of underground storage after all. They said, why not build an open-air bronze statue of underground storage in Jiuhuashan? " This is called a mountain stream meets a bosom friend. The more you talk, the more speculative you are, and the more excited you are. Organized by Jushilin, Singapore, all walks of life in Singapore quickly held a prayer meeting for the preparation of the great bronze statue. At the prayer meeting, countless laymen donated money for the big bronze statue on the spot. The warm scene really touched Master Rende.

After the master arrived in Singapore, he immediately reported to the leaders of Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association and Jiuhuashan Management Office as soon as he set foot on the land of Jiuhuashan. With the support of the leaders of the management office, the feasibility report of building an open-air bronze statue in Jiuhuashan was quickly sent to Chizhou Administrative Office. Chizhou administrative office immediately gave feedback step by step, and the report was highly valued by the central and local governments at all levels. Li Ruihuai, Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, immediately gave instructions after receiving Jiuhuashan's report on the preparations for the great bronze statue of Tibetan Bodhisattva: relevant state departments should implement it according to the policy. In order to get the reply from relevant departments as soon as possible, Chizhou Administrative Office, Jiuhuashan Management Office and Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association sent personnel to Beijing twice to give special reports, and visited Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of Chinese Buddhist Association. Park Lao was very happy when he heard this. He happily wrote a couplet for the big bronze statue: "I remember when the immortals opened Jiurong Scenic Area, looked up at the Bodhisattva statue and magnified the splendor of Xiangyun." 1in the spring of 997, during the meeting of CPPCC, the mage called on Ye Xuanping, vice chairman of CPPCC. When Ye Xuanping learned that Master Rende was about to build a big bronze statue of Tibetan Bodhisattva in Jiuhua Mountain, he immediately expressed his full support and took out Four Treasures of the Study to write down the Tibetan Bodhisattva with his profound pen and ink. The oath of "Hell is not empty, I will never become a Buddha" expressed his high praise for the Tibetan spirit. Wang Guangying, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), also expressed great support when he learned that Jiuhua Mountain was going to build a bronze statue of underground storage. Wang Guangying said: "This is a good thing. If there is any difficulty, I will try my best to help you solve it. After that, every time Wang Guangying met Master Rende, he asked how things were going and whether there were any difficulties. The Anhui Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government also attach great importance to it, and leaders at all levels, such as Chizhou Administrative Office and Jiuhuashan Management Office, are persistent and persistent. 199710/0/On 8 October, the general office of the Anhui Provincial Government issued a document [1997] 14, agreeing that the Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association should build a large bronze statue in the underground, the height of which should not exceed 76m. 1998 10 10 On 6 October, the Ministry of Construction and the Bureau of Religious Affairs of the State Council jointly issued a document approving the construction of a large bronze statue of the Jiuhua Mountain Buddha. The Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association and relevant parties finally determined that the bronze statue is 76 meters high and the lotus chassis is 99 meters. This is consistent with Jiuhua Mountain's nine lotus flowers, Park Lao's suggestion and Jin's death at the age of 99. The planned construction area is 6000 square meters. Jiuhuashan Temple (Xueyuan Temple) will be built in front of the bronze statue, and Wei Tuo Hall, Tianwang Hall and Daxiong Hall, as well as corresponding zhaitang, squatter houses and service facilities will be built high. The days around the old monk were deeply moved by the noble sentiments of the teacher. Old people get up early to meditate after 3 o'clock every day, and then go to the temple for morning classes and fast. Before 8 o'clock, I began to receive pilgrims endlessly, take care of the affairs of Jiuhuashan Buddhist Association and various monasteries, and often attend various CPPCC and Buddhist meetings. I was busy until late at night. Really busy. I often advise the old monk to rest more, but the old monk always looks at me sympathetically and says, how can I rest? I can't refuse pilgrims who come from afar to worship Jiuhua Mountain. Monks should educate all sentient beings with compassion and let more people believe in Buddhism. Looking at the thin face of the old monk, I really feel distressed. Construction of the open-air bronze statue of the Bodhisattva in Jiuhuashan started on September 9, 1999. Regrettably, Lao He failed to wait until the bronze statue of the open-air bodhisattva was completed, so that he could die on August 23rd. The construction of underground open-air bronze statue became the last great event on his road.
