They have already started making painted pottery. The tools used are bone chisel, stone shovel, stone axe and so on. Most of them have been polished. Because their stone tools are much more advanced than those in Beijing, people call their age the Neolithic Age.
Pottery was the main tool in people's daily life at that time. A large number of pottery were unearthed in Banpo. The background color of pottery is generally red, and most of them are painted with figures, animals and geometric patterns.

Site characteristics
The northern part of the site is a public cemetery, the southern part is a residential area, and the eastern part is a kiln factory for firing pottery. There is a big rectangular house in the residential area, where clan members live together. There are many round or square huts around, which are the residences of clan members.
There are trenches around the residential area to protect it. Most of the houses where Banpo residents live are semi-crypts. They first dug a square or round hole from the surface, buried pillars in the hole, then tied branches along the hole wall to form a fence, plastered with grass mud inside and outside, and then erected the roof.
The floor in the house is evenly trimmed, with a pit in the middle for cooking, heating and lighting, and the sleeping place is higher than the ground.
