This city used to be called Alekin.

Harbin used to be called Alekin, which means Manchu, drying the net. Because it is adjacent to Songhua River,/kloc-was a small fishing village more than 0/00 years ago, and once belonged to Alekchu (Acheng District, the old capital of Jin Dynasty, remains of ancient walls of Jin Dynasty).

The railway meets Alejin, a small fishing village near Songnen Plain and Songhua River, and extends southward to Dalian Port, turning this place into a railway T-junction, where land and water meet, and Harbin, a far eastern international city, was born.
