Initially, Northern Song Dynasty and Liao Dynasty were two coexisting regimes. Liao was a country established by the Khitans, and it was established in the Five Dynasties before the Northern Song Dynasty. After Zhao Kuangyin established the Northern Song Dynasty, the Northern Song Dynasty and the Liao Dynasty fought a border war for many years, winning and losing. In the middle and late Northern Song Dynasty, Xixia was established in the northwest of the Northern Song Dynasty, and fought a war with the Northern Song Dynasty for nearly 100 years. Later, Jurchen rose from the northern part of Liao. Jurchen destroyed Liao and built gold. Jin later wiped out the regime of the Northern Song Dynasty, which moved southward and made Hangzhou its capital, known as the Southern Song Dynasty in history. Later, Jin, Xixia and Southern Song Dynasties were all destroyed by Mongols.
