Historical events in Tongan district
In August of the fifth year of Shunzhi (1648), Tongan city was destroyed by the Qing army and slaughtered for four days.

On the fourth day of the massacre, a group of Qing soldiers killed Houlu Street near the city edge at the foot of Hulu Mountain. It's past noon, and there is a baby crying beside a pile of bodies. A baby was crying on the ground and climbed onto a female corpse to suck milk. "Young people and young people", who don't love their children, will melt their hearts of stone. When the Qing soldiers saw it, their hands were soft, so Qing Shuai had to order the whole city to seal the knife.

Later generations built a "temple" in this place where the Qing soldiers stopped killing, commemorating the babies who saved lives and warning the world, just like the towering bronze statue of "Peeing in the Water" on the streets of Belgium. Although there is no temple left, the name of this place is still called "Shankou Temple", and Tongan folk custom has been handed down. Every household will pay homage to the "ancestors trapped in the city" on August 26 of the lunar calendar, mourning the ancestors who were trapped in the city more than 300 years ago.
