The Historical Evolution of Zhonghua Gate
Zhonghua Gate was built in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty. When it was completed, it was the south gate of the imperial city. The ancients emphasized the south, so they enjoyed the status of "national gate". Its name changed with the change of dynasties. In the Ming Dynasty, it was called Daming Gate, and Jie Jin, a great scholar, inscribed the couplet "Sun, Moon, Heaven, Virtue, Mountains, Rivers and Strong Imperial Houses". In the first year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty (1644), it was renamed Daqingmen. After the Revolution of 1911, 19 12 was renamed Zhonghua Gate. 1952, Tiananmen Square was demolished at the suggestion of Soviet experts. 1976 After Mao Zedong's death, Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall was built at the original site.
