Why does astronomy rarely produce a "folk discipline"
I don't know, but many "civil subjects" need to cram more basic knowledge of physics and math tools.

Folk science initially refers to unofficial folk scientists outside China's system, and later extends to scientists whose research topics do not belong to their own professional fields or whose research fields have not obtained doctoral degrees. The essence of the concept of "folk science" is not the classification of scientists, but the academic evaluation that equates "folk science" with "pseudoscience". So "folk science" is a derogatory term. Because a large number of first-class scientific achievements in human history are obtained by folk scientists, the truly first-class scientific achievements in the quantum age today are often the results of interdisciplinary, marginal, comprehensive and interdisciplinary research. Any scientific achievement is the result of repeated verification by scientists or science lovers after careful observation, in-depth investigation, hard thinking and bold ideas without identity constraints. It is neither historical nor logical to equate "folk science" with "pseudoscience", and there is no scientific basis.
