Which dynasty did Liu Sanjie come from?
There have always been many opinions about the identity of Song Sanjie. Scholars who hold the view of "legendary historical figures" mostly cite the records of Qu Dajun's Cantonese Dialect in Qing Dynasty or Wang Shizhen's A Talk in Red North, and think that Liu Sanjie is a real historical figure. He is an expert singer in Tang Zhongzong's Dragon among Dragons (about 706 AD), "said to be the first songwriter" and "the originator of Manger". Scholars, such as Zhong Jingwen, who hold the view that myths and legends are historical, believe that "Liu Sanjie's legend was created by later generations according to the local popular singing custom", that is to say, there was a singing custom before, and later generations invented a singing fairy named Liu Sanjie to explain the formation of this custom. Some scholars believe that Sanjie Liu is an ancient witch, and she mainly sings witchcraft songs. After the 1980s, with the deepening of the general survey of folk literature, Guangdong folk literature workers found that in Zhanjiang, Maoming, Yangjiang, Qingyuan, Zhaoqing, Meixian and other places in Guangdong, as long as the songs and customs in western Guangdong prevailed, there were abundant "Liu Sanmei legends" everywhere, and their story types were almost the same as those of "Liu Sanjie" in Guangxi.
