Postmodern historiography has abolished the boundary between history and literature.
Traditional historiography holds that the historian's reason has the ability to explain the past. They shoulder the responsibility of educating, enlightening readers, explaining and inculcating historical teachings to readers, thus playing the role of inheriting culture. The procedure of historical work is based on modern hermeneutics. In historical research, there are many examples in which historians have different interpretations of the same historical materials. Since "the author is dead", historians can interpret historical materials at will, so how real is history? It can be seen that the deconstruction of historical subjects by postmodernism fundamentally shakes the foundation of modern historiography.

Postmodern historiography subverts the objectivity of historical knowledge in three aspects: first, the interaction between knowledge and power emphasizes the domination of rights behind historical knowledge, and history is written by winners, revealing that knowledge has ideological characteristics; Secondly, postmodern historians point out that history is narrative, and it needs to weave plots and adopt various rhetoric, which will form some fiction or subjectivity, similar to literature and art becoming language games; Finally, postmodernists textualize history, adjust the relationship between the author, the text and the reader, enhance the status of the reader from the perspective of understanding diversity, and belittle the status of the author, suggesting that language is an obstacle to truth and denying the existence of objective facts. This led to the objectivity crisis of modernist historiography.
