From 65438 to 0955, China established diplomatic relations with the former Yugoslavia. After the disintegration of Yugoslavia, the Embassy of China in the former Yugoslavia was renamed as the Embassy of China in Serbia and Montenegro (2003) and the Embassy of China in the Republic of Serbia (2006). In 2009, China and Serbia announced the establishment of a strategic partnership.

In 20 13, the heads of state of China and Serbia jointly signed the Joint Statement of People's Republic of China (PRC) and Serbia on Deepening Strategic Partnership.

In 20 16, the heads of state of China and Serbia jointly signed the Joint Statement on Establishing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between People's Republic of China (PRC) and Serbia. The foreign ministries of the two countries cooperated well and established a consultation mechanism.
